And if I want to drive to Denver in my Tesla, I'm screwed.

This statement also means that I could not drive a Tesla from where I live to a GF's place in Oklahoma City and be sure that I can get there without the batteries going flat.

The least expensive version of the Model S STARTS at $49,900.00 and tops out at over $97,000.00 (NINETY-SEVEN-THOUSAND DOLLARS!).

Now just why in the Hell would I want to spend that much money to be only able to drive 265 miles?

I remember back in like 1977 buying a John Player Special Europa for around $2500.00 USD because he top leaked and had filled the footwells with water. The owner let it sit that way for several months and it smelled like shit. Pulled the seats and all the carpet, had them redone, disinfected the car and drove it for several years. Geting in and out of it was quite a job as Europas fit a guy my size like a very tight glove.

A local guy here in Niagara region has a Tesla - seen it a few times in the downtown core. I mistook it for a Lotus the first time I saw it curbside.

Kinda' curious how long the batteries will last in winter driving - although I suspect he'll be storing it through the winter months.

Your missing the point. At this point the Tesla is like the Ferrari of electric cars.

Imagine being able to travel 300 miles without it costing you a fucking cent because your charging it with solar power.

if your in the usa you should be impressed, as they have possibly taken the lead with electric cars. this is at a time that today ford is laying staff off.

what it takes is say the goverment alowing them to be installed tax free, this way businesses would install the charging stations.

i could see supermarkets putting them in there car parks.

i suspect in 10 to 15 years electric cars will be much more common.

and like mobile phone and computers, they will become cheaper and cheaper.

The maximum distance the car can travel on a single charge is 265 miles, NOT the 300 miles that you are claiming.

often modern usa cars are rather ugly and do not sell outside the usa, but this car is attractive. in fact i bet people would think its made it italy not usa.

this car will sell in the eu.

the problem i suspect is that i bet there production is low and it will be hard to get hold of one.

at the moment the competition is basicly the nissan leaf, but that has a range of about 80 miles or somthing like that.

as i say how many people would even do over 160 miles a day?

in the uk they have (or had) some cash back too on selected electric cars, so the goverment gives you back some cash (or somthing like that).

also i suspect that there solor stations if used will pop up all over the place. in fact i wonder if they will sell them as it would be a cool thing for a business to have in its car park.

think this way, in the uk, you could easily spend £40 to do 160 miles a day. thats over £13k a year. so in 5 years the car pays for itself.

and as i say most people wil;l charge it from home.

i bet to fully charge it will cost you under $1.

the point of these super chargers (if i am reading it correct) is that if you were on a long gerny, you can charge quick, rather than have to stop for 12 hours or so to charge up. the fact its solor is just a bonus and means it can be off grid.

if you had in the uk fast chargers at service stations on the motorway, then you could drive all over without any worries.

the question will be which comes first, lots of supply points or people buying electric cars.

even on top gear they are loving electric cars. not becase they are green, but becase they are cheap to run, and faster. eklectric cars are much faster than petrel cars, in fact in the nissan leaf for safty they have made it go slower just to stop people setting off too fast.

also much fewer things need chaging on electric cars (no oil change). so thats a huge saving.

in some countries they sell electric cars like mobile phones.

basicaly you buy the car but rent the battery.

so when you get low you pull into a station and hot swap the battery (by robot).

so taxi cabs drive all day without any problems.

i belive isrial is one that does this.

i do not need to prove stats on people charging from home as its clear they will as you just plug it in. no need for any eqipment, just the standered plug. you get home, plug it in, and next day its charged.

they say to charge a nissan leaf in the uk is £1. and i bet electricity is cheaper in the usa than uk, so it will probably be even cheaper.

on top of that fuel is probably going to cost more each year, not less.

from my history (a snoopy cartoon) the reason we use pertel cars is becase in the early days they had a race and the elecric car ran out of power and i think the petrel car snoopy drove one. thus we carried on using petrel cars due to snoopy winning the race.

The "solar" charging stations require huge battery banks for storage and the environmental impact of battery production alone could very well offset the "green" advantages of the car itself.

Tesla Motors is interesting as they apear to be a technology firm who just happen to make cars.

they seem to be making them like pc's.

the model x is interesting. at first i thought, not sure. but then i sort of get it. it would be good as a mini van with the seats down. if your making deliveries i could see it as a good buy.

it would be good in the uk, as if you go in the countryside 4x4 is very usfull.

The average C Class MB costs $40k in the US. Considering there is only a $10k difference for the lower priced Tesla and then factor in that you'll never ever pay $4 for a gallon of gas.... Seems to me like it's fucking brilliant.

Figure your house is on solar and the charging stations are on solar, and poof you'll never pay to travel again.

265 miles is just the starting point. Five years from it will be 500 miles.

By the way, my "other car" really is a Rolls Royce. A very nice '71 Shadow LWB with an Everflex top, Continentals, an Edelbrock fuel injection conversion, low miles and if you have to ask about the fuel economy, you don't need to know and couldn't afford it anyway. No pix though as pix are already posted to a few places on the net and I don't need anyone using an image search program to try to find my real identity. I paid less than $9K for the Roller and spent around $7K on updates and maintainence so I'm in it pretty good.

I also have a '91 GMC one ton dually four-door with a 454 which gets 10 mpg but I use it so little that I don't care. Paid less than $2K for it and it is rust free.

My regular driver is a full size car which averages about 20 mpg in town and 26-28 on the highway. Less than $3K because I bought it right.

There is also a great business model here. Highway gas stations can add super chargers to their stations for only a few thousand dollars. No underground gas tank needed. Chargers will need distributors, technicians, etc.

There are already 2 super charging stations in Montreal that I have seen, with over 100 coming to Montreal soon. And I've seen 4 Chevy Volt's and 3 Tesla's on the road here.

Electric cars are coming. They're fast, sleek and cool as fucking hell (except for the god-awful Nissan Leaf). Tesla, Chevy, BMW, and now Ford (Ford Focus Electric). Even the Quebec Government (idiots, usually) give you $7000+ to buy an electric car.
