Listening to Christopher Poole he missed out on a lot of opportunity to monetize on 4chan. He's got people that simple poor money into it now because they appreciate it for what it is. He let the whole meme craze slip through his fingers and didn't monetize on that. Sites like canihazcheezburger and failblog get a lot of scraps from there. This is just my thought.

I guess they're good for generating high turnover but at the risk of drive-by proxy uploads of less than flattering content.
