Am i the only person who can't work on a laptop?
Sometimes i really think so.
I just can't work on those things. The only way i can use one is by adding a seperate screen, mouse and keyboard. |
I work on mine a lot but it has a big screen and yes I MUST use a mouse.
|
Nope. Could never work on a laptop. I try when I'm sick or tired, but it seems like I get no where. I love my dual monitor setup, keyboard and mouse. If I absolutely need to, I hook up at least a wireless mouse to the laptop. It's a pain.
|
It's because you have A.D.D.
|
I've tried. Can't get a thing done unless I'm at a desk.

I'm sometimes forced to work from my laptop when I go to the office(usually try to knock all work out before then) and it's just not pretty. |
did it for years as i was always on the move, built the entire operation on a laptop, 6 months back got a beast of a desktop, triple monitor bla bla, no way i could go back to a laptop, painfully fiddly and slow.
|
I find it slower for sure just to work on a laptop while sitting on the couch or in a hotel. Having the dual monitors really helps productivity. But I cant work on an external keyboard, it just feels foreign to me. I love my laptop keyboard.
|
i refuse to get a lappy as well ... fucking hate the constant mistyping (lack of space between keys) and the sluggish behav ... laptop, no thanks
|
All I work on unless im making dvds or videos but have to use a mouse.
|
I can't masturbate with a laptop.
|
Amazes me people who are supposed to be professionals might do something like work from the couch on a laptop. How do they actually get anything done? Not to mention laptops throttle and get hot, even worse once dust build up starts inside.
|
Its the worst. I can't do it either.
|
I work on 2 of them. 1 for video rendering and the other for everything else.
|
I get stressed when I try to work with a laptop just because I cant work as fast as I can on my desktop.
|
I'm with you. It sucks.

Laptops are designed to be portable, not to be convenient to work on |

I can work on a netbook without any problems :)
On the other hand, desktop is faster and has bigger screen. |

Haha clearly i'm not the only one. For some reason i never hear people complain about laptops.

I work on my laptop around the house sometimes, but I find I only get about 50% done in the same amount of time. I get a huge amount of productivity by having dual monitors, a good mouse and keyboard at the correct hight.
Sometimes I hook my Mac laptop up to dual monitors with mouse / keyboard which works really well too, almost like a desktop just not as fast. |

I hate working on laptops too. Just too small. The only time I do is when I'm on the road.... And when I do go on the road I have a little netbook flip screen I use.
|
You're not alone, working on laptops is next to impossible. I don't know how people do it. I need my mouse, my extra monitors.. shit I even need my desk, working from the kitchen table or out by the pool, just doesn't work for me.

OP is true, you need those things, and his makes the whole laptop idea dead..
Moving to a desktop computer was a part of separating my private and business life. At home I have a laptop, but most of the work is getting done on a fast desktop machine. Would never go back to the old way. |
Im the opposite, cant work on desktops
|
The only thing I use is a laptop. I used to have a dedicated office with four screens and two computers and I never used it. Stayed very clean though.
Now I do everything from a recliner on my laptop. Everything including Photoshop, video editing, whatever. No add-on mouse or keyboard. I have those things just never plug them in. |

When I'm not working I use my tablet for everything else. Actually when I'm working I use my laptop, tablet and phone. Social media on tablet, tasks app and messaging on phone. If I can't reach someone at my company through a messenger I whatsapp them. Edit: whoops, I quoted wrong post... as for what I actually get done... All promo tools (vids, fhgs, content zips, banners, everything else) and newsletters for 8 programs Oversee the team of tube submitters Prepare the advance promo material for all 8 programs Manage all of our social media Handle all member support Multiple revenue reports A million and one other projects Surf GFY Easy peasy. All from my recliner on my laptop. |

the only thing I've worked on for years is a laptop. Now that I have a dedicated office in my house I'm looking at desktop options with 2 monitors.
|
Maybe I am just too A.D.D. but I found multiple monitors to be a huge distraction. I like to work on the one thing in front of me and alt+tab between things to keep my mind on track.
Even with messengers it may be a few minutes between responses as I will only reply when in the middle of something. I also don't check my email religiously instead opting to only do it three or four times a day. People who would absolutely need to reach me right away for something know how ... I keep my MSN messenger contact list very limited and there is text message and whatsapp. |
I hate using a laptop too. I only use mine when traveling and even then I can't get any real work done on it.
|
I would like to get a dual monitor setup to make things easier than flipping between tabs.
I use the laptop for play rather than work. |
As a developer I got laptop which indeed would be a pain but i almost never have to use it as an laptop.
I plug it in the dock at the office and I got my quadmonitor-rig with all the bells and whistles, at the "home-office" i got a similar rig setup. The only thing i always carry is my trusty wacom + laptop on trips when i know I'll have to create a make-shift-office. I hate my job at these times :/ |
I prefer desktops they seem more reliable, laptops always overheat and crap. They never seem to last staying booted up for more than a week for me :1orglaugh
|
i hate having to wipe off the back of my laptop daily after shooting cum loads on it
|
Not healthy either, they can knock you out the gene pool
Laptops may damage male fertility http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4078895.stm "Balancing it on the lap increases the temperature of the scrotum which is known to have a negative effect on sperm production, researchers found. " |
They are good for when you loose your temper cause you can just throw them across the room or bash them over your knees or hit anybody who is sitting near you
|
I hate those fucking glossy displays they use in most of the new laptops.
|
i am ok with both, even doing smaller tasks when on the road is ok on laptop, however mouse is a must.

I've used a laptop exclusively since about 2002, going to be getting a desktop soon though.
