Using a pornstar's name?
 

If a girl who does porn gets 'given' a name by the studio she worked for (anabolic in this case) can she still use it if she breaks ties with the studio? This girl hasn't done porn for 2-3 years, but wants to get back into it indie. She want's to keep the name she was using when she was working.
Any thoughts? :)

I would say she can use it but I'd email wanker over at www.lukeford.com to be sure-I would think it is NOT like wrestling where a wrestler who is given a name by Vince McMahon can't use that nickname if they work elsewhere in the future

Get her to check any contracts she had with them. If they were trying to protect the name, they probably had it in her written contacts.

The one person that springs to mind is Christy Canyon. Is that her porn name, or real one? I know she dances under that name, but maybe she is still under contract?

I'd hate to build a site around this girl, use her 'porn name', and get a C&D order or something like that from a studio, or agent....

does she or her lawyer have a copy of the contract she signed?

I am working on that. Basically she is in Brazil right now, and moving back home in early March. Want's to do her own site using her old porn name. I will have to run that by her. Maybe it is better just to change her name.

I dont think any video porn company is going to hassle her from using her stage name. In fact these porn studios don't trademark stage names, even if they help make them up or give them to a girl. They aren't bad that way.

But a girl who does make a name for herself should go the extra step and get her stage name trademarked.

Aurora Snow trademark is owned by her. She invented her name, told me it came from her favorite book - what book has a character named 'Aurora' in it? I wasnt listening too closely.

depending on who she is, you may be able to make more $ with her known name than if she comes in w/ a new name because I know how devoted some male porn fans can be to a particular starlet:thumbsup
