your all wrong...the correct name is surface mount micro chips, nothing new been around since the 1980's I used to work with the stupid little things and a real pain if the SMT assembly machines did not place the chip correctly when being solderd, Because the pins are so small and close together its nothing short of a nightmare to try and remove the skewed chip whithout breaking the traces or vias on a multi layered PCB or bending the pins. I used to hate those poxy surface mount components ..so there
