ANCHORAGE, Alaska ? A 37-year-old man was arraigned Friday on attempted murder and assault charges after authorities say he exchanged gunfire with police at an Anchorage hotel, wounding an officer who was working on a burglary investigation.

Jason Walter Barnum was arrested Friday morning after his release from a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his arm. The heavily tattooed Anchorage man was ordered held on $500,000 cash-only bail.

The right side of Barnum's face is almost completely covered with a tattoo of a skull, and his right eyeball has been tattooed black, according to the Alaska Dispatch.

Anchorage Police Chief Mark Mew said at a news conference he could only speculate on why Barnum started firing at officers from a hotel room bathroom Thursday. He said Barnum was a heroin user who showed symptoms of drug use after the incident.

"Someone just blasting away from behind a door, that's unusual," Mew said. "And of course they responded in kind, rather quickly."

There was an article about this guy on Reddit and some folks came forward who claimed they had met him, said he seemed a nice guy despite his creepy appearance, just made shitty choices as a young man. Not surprisingly he remained in a life of crime since his appearance makes him pretty much unemployable.

Take a needle and poke your eye with it.

Now imagine that being done a few hundred times per minute, over the entire surface of your eye.

Nah, they showed prisoners doing this to themselves and apparently it only takes a couple of pricks and the ink runs around the entire eye.
