I LOL at Facebook naysayers
Today Zuck confirmed that FB has been working on search. That can be a game changer.
He put an end to the rumor that FB is interested in building their own phone but rather want to build a social layer over all devices. First off, friends can anonymously influence search results. With the social layer they can become the biggest and most accurate mobile ad network. Imagine your friend goes to Miami and looks up parasailing. Next time you're in Miami you get a mobile coupon for parasailing with a note that your friend did it. Expand upon that by offering up the same as an in-app ad network. Then of course your FB app could have a savings wallet where deals are offered based on proximity. He admitted that they failed on mobile so far because they relied on HTML5 and just built a wrapper around the site which made everything too slow. Since making the iOS app native feed items read have doubled. More opportunity to mobile revenue which they haven't even rolled out yet. Facebook has always been about going long. They held off on generating any revenue longer than most companies would because they wanted to grow the site. It's not about 2012 or even 2013 but what they're doing in 2014 and 15. The people that bought and aren't freaking out at today's share price know this. Facebook hasn't even scratched the surface yet. |

This could change the game---as we know it.

I really don't want a coupon cause I searched for Strip Clubs the next time I visit Las Vegas with my Wife.

We have been saying that a good search feature is what they need for a while now. Would be great if it happens.

I am eager to see what they do with phone micropayments for games...

Their real value will be in data mining and selling off incredibly specific marketing information to third parties eventually. Millions of people tell them why they bought something, what they bought, when they bought it, how they heard about it, who else they know who has one.... you can't get that kind of massive perfectly targeted data on a user by user basis from anyone else. 2cents
