On the off chance of it happening, why do they think that the rest of the world is going to be dead and not them in their little second basement in their back yard? And if you survive like that for a little bit after an apocalypse, the world isn't going to rebuild itself fast enough for you to be able to get your life back together so you're just torturing yourself by dying slower...

If there was such a catastrophic event that a person needed to retreat to a bunker and hide it is likely most people would die on their way to that bunker.

The only real use, as I see it, for preparedness is that there might be a situation where an earthquake or hurricane or floor or something like that hits and you are out of water/power for several days. Then having some food, flashlights and supplies would be very useful.

It's the "silent majority" that are the real preppers. We watch them weekly buy water purification systems, long term survival foods, ammo in sealed cans, weapons, etc.

Never shot anyone, don't hunt or fish. I think anyone who "hunts" is disturbed. The excuse of "I eat what I kill" expired around 1900. People who hunt simply enjoy killing for the sake of killing. Hell I even think fishing is cruel. And that excuse "I throw them back in they live" is total bullshit. Put a hook in a wild animals mouth and see how long it survives. Just 3 days ago I stopped my car to pull a dead cat out of the road. Last week I rescued a turtle in the miiddle of the road. In the last year I have rescued 3 dogs, 2 cats. Today I was spraying for spiders around the eaves, what I thought was a huge wolf spider was a frog, but too late I had sprayed it. So I rushed to grab a water hose to try to spray the insecticide off, while washing it off with water it jumped down into some bushes. Spent a hour looking for it in the bushes after it fell.

I can see his point. These people present themselves on DP as ones who truly expect it, prepare for it, know what it will be, devote their life to preparation and if there isn't a little hope in them they will be proved right they are truly insane. Often we hear them say "When the shit hits the fan, I will be fine.? So add arrogance in there.

Their preparations are stupid and ineffectual. One guy was building a compound out of Containers that would stop a 33. Calibre bullet and can see a radius of 500 feet from the compound. So he's safe from a person with a 33. calibre rifle. Ex military with anything better have his balls. My friend can pick him off from a 1000 meters away and his buddies will turn up with enough fire power to remove the compound.

If the shit hits the fan, the army will step in and anyone who tries to stop them had best be able to match them in arms or training to stand a chance. Don't believe me?

I will be the first to agree that the people on that show are dumb as rocks. No real prepper would show his stash to anyone, def not have it on national TV. People on that show are extremest idiots that just want attention. As I have stated before on this board my only "prep" is for extended power outages from either hurricanes or solar flares. My power went out this morning, first time in years. I flipped a few switches and had enough power for my computer, tv, and air conditioning. All provided from a solar cell system I put together. All other "doomsday scenarios" means game over as far as I am concerned. I don't dump money into dumb shit for this. My daughter is reselling everything I buy on ebay and her website and she is making a killing.
