Ross 09-05-2012 06:39 AM

At this stage I don't think it's about who copied who, it is about who owns the patents on the stupid little design things. Apple aren't innovative - design wise - at all, they are just very very smart.

i remember we had quite a few Braun devices - like record player, electric shaver... they used to be quite popular and had high quality products. no idea when they went under

They all cycle through just like Apple will. Apple's a one trick pony now. It is already winding down for them.

helterskelter808 09-05-2012 07:10 AM

I don't think it's news that Ive was 'inspired' by Dieter Rams. The difference is Rams sees Apple's imitation of him as the sincerest form of flattery, whereas Apple is the epitome of an evil, soulless, US corporate monstrosity that happily stifles innovation and consumer choice in its attempts to screw every last penny it can out of thin air.

seeandsee 09-05-2012 07:32 AM

This shit must stop, even if they applied for patents, this is too much!

MrCain 09-05-2012 07:33 AM

Apple has never come up with anything new or original.

scuba steve 09-05-2012 07:36 AM

braun as in the company that makes my electric shaver made all those products?

cant we just stick with there are no new ideas just revised ones.

Freaky_Akula 09-05-2012 07:48 AM

The entire patent system needs to be abolished.

I have to say that after having been on PC for the past 21 years, I recently switched to Mac 3 months ago and I love it.

Will they be suing the major UK broadcaster that stole the name from Apple 60 years ago?

how exactly is it winding down? I'm not an apple fan, but the stock is as strong as ever, and the p/e ratio is 15, so compared to other tech stocks it's in no way overvalued. As a comparison, facebook, which has been decimated since it's IPO has a p/e ratio of 103, and their stock is rising today.

Apple is as strong as it ever has been, and is in no way a 1 trick pony, I would say they are one of the fastest to move onto a new pony when others start to catch them in any of their product lines. I may never be an apple fan, but those who are, aren't going anywhere anytime soon

ruff 09-05-2012 08:24 AM

Apple is peaking right now. What do you think they are going to do now? Samsung and Google will eventually catch up and eat their lunch. There's a backlash building now over Apple's business policies. Hell, I bought a bunch of music on iTunes years ago, but guess what?, they're not mine anymore, Apple won't make them available for me now. So yeah, one trick pony. Some of us saw this years ago when Apple produced the best computer, but priced it out of competition and allowed Microsoft to dominate with open machines. I don't like being locked into their closed society and a lot of other people feel the same way.

Yeah, no doubt they're riding high on the hog now, but without Jobs, they are going to start having to cater to their stockholders like all public companies do. Then see how long they're walking in tall cotton wiping their ass with the top leaves.

Apple build the new jet I flying in to Amsterdams.

Go around the world's in 11 minutes.

No one make a better airplanes than Apples.

People said that five years ago. I said that five years ago.

And here we are.

Sure, their world could self-destruct and they could start to crash. Where have you seen any signs of that? All I see are improvements on products, new products, and new ideas.

Samsung and Google? Google is in a totally different market. Samsung might have some great phones and other products, but they have no "revolutionary" products that millions of trendy geeks cling to as if it were their salvation.

not to take away from your point about public companies, because it is certainly true in almost all cases, but it's almost all, not just all.

http://www.businessinsider.com/faceb...r-shareholders.

you have your thoughts, and that's fine, as I mentioned already, I am not an apple fan, so I have no internal rage pushing me to try to defend my thought that the company is just fine for the near future, and will likely come out with more innovative products over the next few years.

I agree with your original statement that things are cyclical, and eventually every company will fail, I just don't think Apple's time is that close yet.

No, they merely have a smartphone market share of about twice that of Apple.

Apple had millions of trendy geeks clinging to Macs for 25 years. They've been rooted to about 5% market share for that entire time and would have gone out of business in the late 90s if Bill Gates hadn't rescued them.

30+ years ago the company was about the biggest PC manufactuer in the world, with one of the biggest IPOs in history. Fast forward a couple of years and they'd been obliterated in the market they virtually owned.

Patent lawsuits and attempts to restrict consumer choice are not signs of a company with years of strong innovative ideas ahead of it.

I guess that the recent over $1 Billion judgement against Samsung for patent infringement will help the struggling Apple continue to exist for a little bit longer... :upsidedow

ADG

you have to admit it would be hard not to steal their tech when you are building their parts at the same time as trying to create your own innovative technology.

crockett 09-05-2012 01:01 PM

I made the switch from PC to Apple a few years ago and now I'm left with a boat anchor & a PC.

The iMac died just 2 months out of warranty and of course Apple wouldn't fix it or even give me a break on it. I sure as hell wasn't going to spend 600-800 dollars to fix it myself.

Fuck Apple they their products are not very good compared to what you can buy if you spend the same amount on a PC.

Apple's are just for trendy assholes whom want to think they are special because they buy over priced shit. I bought into the "they are better products" bullshit only to find out they are not.

Scott McD 09-05-2012 01:06 PM

I don't own any Apple products now. When my iPod died, i never bothered replacing it... Go me!

Bought an iPod (the only Apple product I've owned) a few years back - put a few tunes on it...listened to it maybe 4-5 times at the most.

Tossed it in the drawer along with the shoelaces, spare keys and other widget junk destined for the garbage eventually.

Bought a Motorola Milestone smartphone instead - loaded it with all my music - carry it with me all the time. :thumbsup

I bought my wife an iPhone 4 a few weeks ago. Now they are coming out with iPhone 5. So where are they taking it? Did they add a bottle opener to it or some blades like a swiss army knife? What else do they have to keep them king of the hill? Pretty much nothing unless they start designing coffee pots and can openers. They are a one trick pony like I said. It's a device that is pretty much developed to the max unless they can figure out how to add teleportation.

I agree with Crockett above. Basically Apple stuff is crap chinese. I bought an Mac Book a few years ago that was so crappy I had to take it back 4 or 5 times until the geniuses had to replace it with a new one. They have a lot of money, watch how they piss it away.

Ace_luffy 09-05-2012 08:27 PM

Patent war! Apple win will forced every company to more innovation to comr from other company :) and consumer will benifit on that

Samsung made $245 billion in revenue last year. Way more than Apple.

Samsung is investing $45 billion this year alone.

DamageX 09-05-2012 11:35 PM

For those who haven't figured it out yet:

Apple grew to what it is today thanks to MARKETING, not innovation. Not hard to figure it out, judging by the amount of morons who bought into the "better product" crap and ended up paying twice what they would for a TRULY better product. And now they defend the crap out of their purchase, simply because they don't wanna look like the morons they are. :)

The sad part is I at the same time I bought the iMac, I also built a PC and I'm posting this message from that PC. This was almost 4 years ago and the only thing that has gone wrong with the PC was one of the Raptor hard drives failed & the memory I originally used had to be replaced. (I've spent maybe $100-150 upgrading the PC over all that time)

When I bought the iMac I think it was something like $2,400 & it was already dead shortly after the warranty ran out. The PC I built at almost the same time cost me about $1700 and it's still kicking strong and it can play BF3 just fine. Meaning it';s far from being obsolete even at it's age.

the screen of my $3000+ Macbook Pro died - no warranty anymore - $900 to replace it. i said fuck you and bought a new Toshiba for the same money

recently i bought a new Samsung laptop - same specs as the current Macbook Pro - looks and feels great - half the price compared to Apple.

and i dont want to work on Mac OS anyways since i have a Windows domain network in my office

KillerK 09-06-2012 10:15 AM

I will happily upgrade to a iPhone 5 to get the larger screen and faster internet.

People bitch about the phone call quality, nobody uses the phone anymore, everything is via text or email nowdays.

Only old people talk on the phone.
