Yankees, do you eat Filet Americain?

Just wondering...
The name is French obviously but it refers to your land of the free, home of the brave.
I've been to your 3rd world country many a time but never seen it in a restaurant or diner.
Every supermarket here has it.

Never heard the term Filet Americain before (although I am familiar with steak tartare), and apparently there is more than one definition:

Different from what the name suggests, this is a very typical dutch sandwich spread. I know that in France and Belgium they mean something else with ?filet américain?, something the rest of the world calls ?steak tartare?, but I?m dutch and this is what dutch people call filet américain. When I was young this was a luxurious treat for special days, nowadays it?s a cheap, day-to-day spread from the supermarket.
Raw meat can be unhealthy... :warning

Nineteen cases of infection with E. coli O157 have been detected in Limburg, Belgium, of which three have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

The Federal Agency for Security of the Food Chain (AFSCA) said Thursday that all cases are related to the ingestion of filet américain (lit. American fillet) with onions and more seasoning than a normal steak tartare.

Funny how they mention the Dutch part. Maybe it's typical Dutch. That would explain things. Steak tartare is raw meat as well but usually comes from the good cuts of meat and isn't mixed with garbage.
This filet Americain stuff is pure garbage.

Depends on the meat, the cut, and how old it is.
Raw fish and raw filet beef (which filet Americain is not, it's leftover pieces of meat full of fat) is not bad for you.
