I loved my Henckels until some asshole stole them.. :(

DateDoc 09-03-2012 07:41 PM

Wusthof is a good brand. I like the handle on the grand prix series better than the classic. The classic handle can get slick. You will probably never use the 6" sandwich knife (for a third knife get one with a serrated blade) so maybe this set will be better and save you some money.

Henckel & Global are about the same in price and both good brands. Global knives are all metal, even the handle, which makes them very durable.

This is what you want. I paid 100 euros for mine but it's worth it.

Knives go missing all the time in a kitchen. Some idiot cooks sees your nice knife and poof it is gone.

Sly 09-03-2012 07:47 PM

I'm not spending $750 on knives but holy shit is this sexy.

I know! That's the part that pissed me off the most. I paid $150 for my sushi knife alone, too..

There is nothing better than a good set of Cutco knives. Hands down the best knives on the planet.

Single piece of metal. Never a loose handle, very durable excellent quality.

I have used Wusthof knives for the last 5 years. Yesterday one of the handles came apart while I was washing it. Kind of surprised me. Let's see what their warranty department does ...

This thread is about knives right? Try looking past the design... It's worth it.

Yeah I have had a set of Henckel knives for about 5 years. After about 6 months of having the set the blade on one of the paring knives cracked. They were always handwashed so I was pretty shocked. The knife was replaced by their warranty department with no questions asked. Still it was pretty surprising.

Not sure if you were being facetious, since Cutco is known as an MLM direct sales company, nonetheless, I bought a few knives from a college friend that worked for the company while going to school, and soon afterwards purchased a set of Santoku-style knives, which I still use many years later.

Kyocera makes excellent knives and while the ceramic blades will hold an edge longer sharpening them is a pain.

I rarely use the chef's knife from the set.. but the spatula spreader is awesome for cheese and spreading things. Probably the most used knife in the kitchen

Personally my go to knife is a Victorinox 8" chef's knife that I've had for 15 years, and the other one is a Wustof 6" Sankotu. I'm not a fan of buying a set of knives, since most of the time there are really only going to be a few that you use. Go to a place that sells knives, and hold them. and see if they are for you. If your hands are bigger, you may not have a deep enough heel on the knife and you find you bash your knuckles as you are chopping. Or the knife doesn't have a great balance for you, or the handle is too heavy, or too thick. You wont know until you try. You will also need a good honing steel.
