The US Will not back Israel on a strike against Iran

The United States has indirectly informed Iran, via two European nations, that it would not back an Israeli strike against the country's nuclear facilities, as long as Tehran refrains from attacking American interests in the Persian Gulf, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.

According to the report, Washington used covert back-channels in Europe to clarify that the US does not intend to back Israel in a strike that may spark a regional conflict.

n return, Washington reportedly expects Iran to steer clear of strategic American assets in the Persian Gulf, such as military bases and aircraft carriers.

Israeli officials reported an unprecedented low in the two nations' defense ties, which stems from the Obama administration's desire to warn Israel against mounting an uncoordinated attack on Iran.

So do you think Israel is about to light some shit up very soon?

As long as the Israelis are talking a lot about the situation little will happen.

Israel doesn't need anyone's permission to take action anyway. When they see Iran's nuclear ambitions as a real threat they will act unilaterally. They are more than capable ...

Sitting where I am, I'd hate to see it happen.

But if I lived under the cross hairs in Israel, I'd see things a bit differently.

As do the Israelis themselves.

And that's the reality that the rest of world has to contend with.

worrying about this sucks.
however...nuclear threat? iran is already a nuclear threat..one stick of c4 attached to some old used up rods from their plant is all you need to kill off a small city..only psychopaths want to use nuclear devices.

iranians have children also...i doubt they want any nuclear bombs going off

It's pretty clear that Iran is backing much of the insurgency in Iraq, so they are already attacking our interests over there but it's not enough to force a war over.

Added to this we already said the same thing to Saddam when he was poising to attack Kuwait and look where that got him. (Well we didn't say we wouldn't back Israel, but we said we wouldn't do anything if Iraq attacked Kuwait)

So the trick is we say we wont back Israel, then Iran gets bolder does more stupid shit giving us reason to back Israel/hit Iran. We already played almost the same card with Saddam & Iraq.
