Video camera question for webcam

I went and picked up a Canon VIXIA HV30 video camera to rip some old mini dv tapes I have. I figured since I bought this camera, it would at leaste be good to use as a webcam, My video editing program "pinnacle" has no problem picking the camera up, stuff like yahoo will recognize the camera as being there, but doesn't show any video or sound from it.

any suggestions on how to get it to work as a webcam?

oh, and It's hooked up to the computer through firewire.

Super old school stuff here but it's all about the drivers, Just go to the cam makers site and hope they have something new to make it work correctly.

Windows auto installed the drivers, but yeah, I'll see if I can find the software & drivers from Canon.

Thanks

funny is that not all video cameras can used as a webcam

There's only certain camcorders that can be used as webcams. I tried the same thing with the Vixia HF S200 but couldn't get it to work so I went with a Logitech cam.

You might also be better off dropping the firewire input and grabbing a video capture device such as the Dazzle and just leaving the camera in preview mode while USBing this into your PC.

I did this with an HD Sony cam and it worked flawlessly.... providing you have the proper RCA plugs/adapters for your camera.

Don't think the web cam programs will pick it up this way. Pinnacle will pick up and record from the camera if that was what I was trying to do :)
