Any thoughts on what is best to use today? In terms of quality, trust, functionality and seo?

Use all the hosts, make throwaway blogs only. make a few posts, use intelligent linking and move on to the next one.
You would be mad to invest time in a free hosted blog.

Excellent point. I probably make some good money from FHB's. If they disappeared at this point I'd be pissed....knock on wood.

Should invest more time in my 70 self hosted domains instead and make blogs with remaining.

I use sensualwriter and Nasty Dollar's blog hosting...I'm surprised and how much SE traffic I get on some of my sensualwriter blogs.

I make some free hosted blogs whenever I can but I try not to invest too much into them because you never know when they'll disappear. I remember trading lots of links with someone on Linkspun who had a crapload of freehosted blogs and the host ended up deleting everything.

Do you ever get that fucking 203 error when making too many SW blogs at a time? That's the only reason why I don't make as many of those as I used to..

Honestly free blog services are good for a quick link. But don't waste your time trying to make something big out of it. Just get your free links, cross em up, and focus on your real blog or site.

yeah he was being ironic, but the funny thing is that many GFY webmasters have accounts in venusblogger and update their blogs daily and make lots of sales, that's a fact.

it's closed for new webmasters, but if anyone from GFY wants an account just hit me up on icq or send me an email webmaster at venusblogger.

That's the message I get from Venusblogger:
You must first log in, and then you can create a new site.
That site is defunct for years.
