If flash is so last year, why do so many websites use flash to deliver video?

That means you're running an out of date Android install.

Running your carrier's version of Android = FAIL

Flash doesn't install on the newest Android.

In an essay composed by Apple mastermind Steve Jobs two years before his untimely demise, Jobs found that the Flash computer program was obsolete.

Jobs criticized Adobe as, "Flash was created during the PC era - for PCs and mice...But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards - all areas where Flash falls short." Adobe is taking the late Jobs' advice, as it now discontinuing the program.

"Flash was designed for PCs using mice, not for touch screens using fingers. For example, many Flash websites rely on 'rollovers,' which pop up menus or other elements when the mouse arrow hovers over a specific spot. Apple's revolutionary multi-touch interface doesn't use a mouse, and there is no concept of a rollover. Most Flash websites will need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices. If developers need to rewrite their Flash websites, why not use modern technologies like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript?"
Guess you missed the memo about Adobe dropping Flash for mobile devices last year.

I have the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab II with Android 4 and it plays Flash just fine.

Apple doesn't support flash because Steve Jobs was a faggot on a power trip. Nothing is wrong with Flash.

They just convinced you they are the best, actually only their marketing is best.

Yes, their marketing is top notch. But prior to this, I've never had such a seamless workflow between my devices--or the stability.

Proof comes from practice and I "i" a lot.

I would love to do away with flash. But not all computers/customers are using the latest browsers that supports html5. Alot are still dependent on flash to view the video. So I have to incorporate and use flash as a back player.

As far as apple I like iPads, Macs. But I probably will never buy another iPhone.

Flash has so many things that html5 does not.

Including the ability to protect streaming content from download. :)

ggrrssyydik 08-29-2012 09:03 PM

Yes html5 is not fully developed yet. Give it some time.

I haven't been able to figure out how html5 would be able to secure a stream yet. Not sure if that's even within it's capabilities.
Also I've been hearing about html5 for the last 4 years or so and it still isn't "fully developed"

What's the deal with it anyway?

ggrrssyydik 08-29-2012 09:21 PM

Yes, same here I have not figured out how to secure stream video from download. But I was able to secure my server so that you have to be logged in to stream anyways.

I like how easy it is to code html5. 1 page works for all, browsers and mobile device. I dont have any re-direct and duplicate pages. My page is cleaner and easier to de bug if I ever have too.

the deal is >>> it's too hard, and we like the old wayyyy .... whaaaaa whaaa whaaaaaaa :Oh crap

nothing gets developed if nobody wants to use it
i think that sums it up.

I don't like the "old" way.

I paid a grand to get Flash Media Server and install in on my server. And every year or so is a new "upgrade" that costs another $500

If html5 could do what I want it to do then I'll gladly dump Flash. But I'm unaware that you can "develop" it to do many of the things that flash allows you to do.

As on now I dont think you can do away with flash. How did you spend so much on flash media? I dont think I paid the guy that helped me set up my servers nearly half that.

I didn't pay anybody to put it on my server. Adobe Flash Media Server costs $1,000 to buy. Then each year they "update" it and it costs money to buy the update (the most recent one for instance only works on 24 bit servers)

To buy the full program is $995 http://www.adobe.com/products/flash-...?promoid=DNRRS

If you had it set up on your server for cheaper than that...then you don't own it.

Thanks for that link. Im going to read it and try to understand the difference between buying it for that much and what I have.

1000's and 1000's of websites are using flash. And the argument of why apple doesn't support it it's because 'flash sucks'. Last time I checked for usability it isn't about if something sucks, it's about running everything like a normal browser does. It's beyond comprehension how many people repeat what Jobs said about flash without thinking.

Lykos 08-30-2012 05:06 AM

Just because Adobe says it won't support it doesn't mean that the existing Flash Player won't work on Android 4.1-powered smartphones and tablets. Some users are already successfully running Flash on their Jelly Bean devices.

From what I understand. Back then Jobs approached Adobe. He wanted to work with adobe on making CS compatible with Macs. Adobe pretty much told him, if you want our software , you will need to work with us and make your Mac compatible, not the other way around. Job was butt hurt so he try to do away with flash. (just about the only thing he can do).

Now this is just something I was told through the years as to why apple stuff dont use flash.
