sean connery might be an idot

Connery stated in interviews for the film (included on the DVD release) that he was offered a role in The Lord of the Rings series,[43] declining it due to "not understanding the script." CNN reported that the actor was offered up to 15% of the worldwide box office receipts to play Gandalf, which had he accepted, could have earned him as much as $400 million for the trilogy

CaptainHowdy 08-23-2012 06:47 AM

You can't just do anything because of the money ...

DamageX 08-23-2012 06:48 AM

I don't think he's hurting for money though.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Emil 08-23-2012 07:01 AM

Yes, he's an idiot because he cant see into the future!

topsiteking 08-23-2012 07:02 AM

That's crazy!!!

Jman 08-23-2012 07:03 AM

If he did not understand the script then he made the right decision. Only an IDIOT would take a role just for the money, especially if he did not understand what he wsa suppose to play.

KUDOS for Sir Sean for making the right decision.

seeandsee 08-23-2012 07:05 AM

Maybe movie with him would be disaster, who knows :D

So basically you would've taken it, right?

You would make a fine Samwise Gamgee!

Colmike9 08-23-2012 07:38 AM

I think that would have killed the movies..

The Ghost 08-23-2012 07:40 AM

15% of the worldwide boxoffice gross? I like Sean Connery in roles but how the fuck would it be justified to offer him that. Overall it worked out for the best for everyone .... except Sean Connery.

Love! Also, imagining Connery saying those words is more funny than anything, especially à la SNL Celebrity Jeopardy.

PR_Glen 08-23-2012 09:37 AM

connery would have been great in it, he's been playing similar wise warriors for years.. but his replacement nailed it so at least we have that.

I think his decision was more based on not wanting to commit to living in NZ spending 6 hours in a make up chair for 2 and a half years more than anything, at his age who can blame him? He doesn't have to prove anything he's already an icon.

At his age, I am sure it worked out just fine for him.

Once you achieve a certain level of financial security, it becomes more about the quality of life than chasing down your next pay check.

Although I think he was right in not accepting the role and I'm beyond grateful he didn't play Gandalf as Sir Ian is PERFECT - HOW DUMB DOES ONE HAVE TO BE TO NOT UNDERSTAND A SCRIPT?!

It's a linear story, we're not talking Lynch here!

Bat_Man 08-23-2012 10:41 AM

I don't see any stupidy here....sean conory is wow....

TheSquealer 08-23-2012 10:47 AM

Yes, i'm sure Sean Connery is hurting for money and needs to take anything that comes his way.

Maybe he didn't want to spend years living in New Zealand to play a movie role based on a books that he thought was for social retards and that he never had any interest in. Real men from an era where being a real man meant something, tend to make these decisions.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh He's an actor, dude. Short of being a ballet dancing transsexual fashion-designer, that's about as un-manly as it gets.

I found whichever one it was I started reading really difficult to get into (too long ago to remember name) and it's one of only 2 books I've ever given up on.

As an artist it probably feels very good to turn stuff down. Especially the stuff the dont care for.

Most of them whored themselves out to get there anyway.

actually it didn't work out for everybody... ALL the main actors including Eljah Wood made SAG scale ..aprox $300k per film...so less than $1mil...before taxes..no backend

and all 3 movies were shot simultaneously on digital ( back then, was still new tech) ..so no one had a clue if this movie would work or not
