Wonderful. The Eiffel Tower is best be visited by bicycle anyways.

Rochard 08-21-2012 01:22 PM

I love it when gas goes up. Less fucking idiots on the road.

Roald 08-21-2012 01:26 PM

Welcome to Europe.

Jel 08-21-2012 02:12 PM

over that anywhere in the UK

just a punk 08-21-2012 02:21 PM

A normal price for Europe.

sperbonzo 08-21-2012 02:24 PM

The gas companies aren't making any extra at that price, the governments are... (taxes)

.

Jel 08-21-2012 02:26 PM

60% goes to the govt in the UK I read today (in the sun, though very much doubt it's an outright lie). Then you pay VAT on the 100% price, so pay tax on the tax - result!

x-rate 08-21-2012 08:32 PM

Here in Quebec, Canada price are fucked up... company say they work on 2-3% margin while in Montreal price were like 1.42$ a liter and when I go to my cottage in the wood at 1h15 from Mtl I get my gas for 1.31$ go figure... they have to send the gas over there by truck.... They are just a bunch of thieves, the governement and the oil companies.

anyway do we have the choice?

sandman! 08-21-2012 08:35 PM

its all taxes :2 cents::2 cents:

rufflebuttfairy 08-21-2012 08:42 PM

Guess I wont be going to paris any time soon, lol.

The funniest part is that they are actually adding VAT to their taxes

Just because you're willing to pay batshit insane prices for gas does not mean that you're not an idiot. It probably means that you're not smart enough to operate a motor vehicle..

People who pay that much for gas ARE the idiots. They shouldn't be allowed on the roads.

I live in Toronto. Its cheaper for me to hire a car to drive me anywhere at anytime than it costs me to park a stinking slab of steel in my driveway.

AllAboutCams 08-22-2012 12:50 AM

Here its $5.29 aus per gallon

DWB 08-22-2012 03:21 AM

Just goes to show how much people will put up with. If they will put up with $10, they will put up with $20.

Chosen 08-22-2012 04:32 AM

It sucks I guess...

seeandsee 08-22-2012 04:42 AM

Jesus that is just too much! Even with nice paychecks in france

Markul 08-22-2012 04:48 AM

I got two cars, both drive 100 KM a day on average. Gas here is more than $2 per liter. That's like $7.5 a gallon.

And my country has enough oil so we export it, why the fuck do I need to pay that much when we export oil... AND we helped invade several countries to get more oil! ><

TurboAngel 08-22-2012 04:51 AM

It's $4.00 here in NC.

EddyTheDog 08-22-2012 04:53 AM

I cant be bothered to do the conversion but I am sure it is more than that here in the UK.

Don't forget that when gas is hi the prices of everything in the shops goes up because they have to get the goods there. Then they get more VAT on those goods and so it goes on.

I suspect they get more directly and indirectly from fuel duties than from direct income tax.

DWB 08-22-2012 04:55 AM

I drive a scooter. Spend $3 - $6 a WEEK depending on how much a drive.

That sums it up, people here appreciate the mpg factor more because of gas prices.. When I visited LA we rented a mustang ('06 I think, probably the smallest engine as it was a rental), but still a blast to drive and listen to, and fuel cost was similar to what you'd pay in Europe for a 2.0L car, which is awesome.
We also have high costs of annual registration, for example I pay close to $700 just for basic registration on a '02 Audi (2.5L diesel), no insurance, no anti-theft coverage, nothing.. how much would that be in the states (ballpark)?

It varies from state to state. Some states make it a percentage of the cars value. However, here in Florida it costs me only $60 a year to register a BMW.

I love how people complain about gas companies making so much money. They have to come up with incredible technical ways to get the oil out of the ground, refine it, etc, and the makea couple of a percent profit. (and yes, with huge volumes in an ever-increasing market that adds up to big money). On average they make 10 USD cents per gallon.

On the other hand, the government, which did nothing at all to get the product out of the ground, takes HUGE margins out of the price of gas, and nobody seems to mind paying that at all....

I don't get it, personally.

It seems you don't like many places in Europe. You also hated Malta! Paris is the best European City I have been to, it absolutely blew me away. I only booked the trip to take my Fiancee for Valentines weekend, I wasn't expecting to have that great of a time but I wanted to stay pretty badly. Not sure how anyone can't like Paris.

The only downside is the people flat out refuse to speak much English to you, it can be a problem but whatever, I don't speak French so they shouldn't be made to pay for my rudeness in their city. I got by just fine.

Your statement is a complete load of crap.

Really? As prices in the market go up, (due to supply and demand), VAT also does. Also, the price has not gone up that much recently, compared to the disparity of prices from one region to the next, those price increases, caused by taxes, were implemented some time ago. If taxes in the US and the EU are the same, then why the discrepency in price?

Your statement is a complete load of crap.

quebec is wack for gas prices. here in ottawa its generally 11 cents cheaper pre litre than gatineau, despite being right next to each other.

I did not find their prices to be that bad. I think Parisians got a bad name, I found the city, people very polite. Miss it.

Lace 08-23-2012 08:42 AM

Love that my Jeep is broke. Getting 10mpg with gas nearly $4/gallon is ridiculous. :(

$76/tank and I'd be lucky to get 190 miles per tank.

Seriously thinking about picking up a bike and getting rid of the Jeep.
