Amsterdam: living on water

Hey, just curious, anybody from Amster here who live in these 'boats', know anyone living there? How good is that? What about winter time? Looks fun but ...

Just post your experience.

It's awesome, lots of fishies in the water.

Roald 08-21-2012 12:08 PM

v4 media 08-21-2012 12:08 PM

They stay in 1 spot so it's all connected to the main land.

Cheap, banner making loser. Electric isn't free. Stick to where you know best. Wherever the fuck it is you are.

No idea tbh but I would reckon the same as most other new houses. We duchies know how to isolate our homes

Good vibes. Looks good to me, at least, it says its cheaper then those built on land due to geographic.

Made of three geodesic domes, it uses solar power and local water and energy sources, thus using 60% less energy than comparable structures.

I would imagine that greater care would have to be taken in the case of sewage, to ensure that nothing leaks into the water (extra regulation and extra expense) in the wintertime, with having access to the water, its possible to use geo-thermal heat pump technology which is fairly cheap. Not sure if you have to have a bubbler under the hull, to keep the ice from damaging it. Not that familiar with Dutch winters.

In Amsterdam you're living 'under water'.

Harmon 08-21-2012 01:08 PM

The OP couldn't afford a yard sale Monopoly board thimble to piss in. Don't bother.

Looks like the neigbour on the right has either a full jacuzzi, or a BBW.

I've always wanted to try one of those homes... but when it comes to ball squeezing, that's something I'd prefer was a private event.

Torn.

The Ghost 08-23-2012 07:38 AM

Ever since first watching MacGyver had the dream of living on a houseboat :)

So my brother has one of these in Key West. Not a big but for the most part the same idea. You have to think about things like "where I place my sofa" since you do need to balance out the weight in the house.

Over all when we go to visit him each January, I really enjoy my stay.
