google webmaster tools - to use or not to use?

It looks like useful tool, but I have some concerns. Google will know what sites do you own, and if one of your sites gets blacklisted wouldn't they be more interested in your other sites? Or one of your sites links to "bad" neighborhood wouldn't they punish your other sites? Other concern is interlinking, what if you add some links to your other sites and google will punish you for interlinking? Or if you trade/buy links - it will be easier for them to catch you, they can see similar patterns on most of your sites. Things like that.

What seo experts say on this matter?
ps: separate g account for each site may be a solution?

Freaky_Akula 08-19-2012 02:42 PM

If you insist on using it, do not use it for more than one site.

if they wanted, they would know all those things about you already.

geekyfox 08-19-2012 02:52 PM

In general, they are very useful. As a precaution, you can create a separate account for each of them or group them somehow into a number of accounts.

MrCain 08-19-2012 02:54 PM

There's no reason to use them.

I somehow agree that they COULD know if they WANTED to know those things specificly about me, but for now I am just nobody to them so they probably do not "want" to know about that my sites, however if I added those sites to webmaster tools it would be bringing the info to them on a silver platter.

brassmonkey 08-19-2012 02:58 PM

don't use it. :2 cents:

your site is indexed on Google? Yes? There is your answer.

Zeiss 08-19-2012 03:04 PM

If you count on SEO, use it together with Attracta. Otherwise, why bother?

papill0n 08-19-2012 03:19 PM

what a bunch of dickheads

you think google doesnt know what sites you run anyways ?

looooooooool

Zeiss 08-19-2012 03:34 PM

Well, they don't really give a fuck what sites you run but they could always give you one or two shits...

This guy would beg to differ with his 15 reasons:
http://ask.enquiro.com/2008/why-you-...bmaster-tools/

Ok some of those reasons are not that useful, but webmaster tools surely help you analyze and improve your site's seo and rankings. To be honest I am shocked some people does not see a single reason to use that tool.

If one of your sites ever gets blocked by Google for being reported of having any malware then the best way to find out whats causing this is to use webmaster tools. It will tell you what url's have viruses and what the virus is, if you know your sites are clean it's usually an advertisement causing the virus warning and you would just have to remove the ad codes.

A while ago I added Google webmaster tools to one of my sites and apparently some pages had malware, these pages were getting blocked by Google. It was a sponsor tube and over 300 pages were being blocked without me knowing, so I guess it was good idea in my case to add it.

Although I rarely use any of Google's webmaster tools anymore (I think I have a few sitelists registered...), I often get surprisingly quick responses from Google when I have a problem with my listings.

So while I'm no fan of Google and its single-minded obsession to collect every single piece of personal information on the internet and sell it to anyone with a dollar, my Webmaster account has been surprisingly useful - and definitely non-judgemental.

Google already knows everything about me - whether I use their tools or not. Whether their webmasters tools are useful or not (for me? Not so useful anymore), building a relationship with Google support through your webmaster account might be helpful in the long run.

YMMV.

I have one site that is number 1 on yahoo and nowhere on google. Posted a thread about the situation:
https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1078285

Would adding it to webmaster tools help me realize whats wrong, or even could I get a review/response from google about it?

Pandoras 08-19-2012 04:59 PM

i never use them

bluebook18 08-19-2012 05:27 PM

i'm using them , so what's the alternative for google web tools?

You won't be too incognito if you present your unique google ID cookie from the very same IP for each different account...

Then there's your sites all hosted on the same IP, with identical WHOIS... :thumbsup

BTW... does anyone know if there's a way to get GWT to forward you the notices it sends you?

anexsia 08-19-2012 10:38 PM

I have all my sites on GWT and have never had a problem.

What problems did any of your site have? If neither of your sites was "bad" in google's eyes then of course you didn't have a problem. I am interested about situations when your sites are being blacklisted for bad stuff and in that case if you get punished as a webmaster for that (your other sites gets punishment in serps)

mineistaken 08-21-2012 05:07 AM

bump for more opinions

KingNigel 08-21-2012 05:30 AM

It COULD hurt your rankings and that's reason enough for me to avoid it.

bump for more irrelevant "hear'say" and speculation so I can formulate my own uneducated oppinion and pass it on to the greater community of nitwits
