Guy Orders TV from Amazon, Gets Giant Assault Rifle Instead

Talk about a dealzmodo! DC resident Seth Horvitz bought a new HDTV on Amazon, but when he opened the peculiarly not-TV-shaped box, he found a $2,000 Sig Sauer SIG716 semi-automatic rifle instead, DCist reports. A mistake has been made.

Assault rifles are completely illegal in Washington, but that didn't stop the accidental delivery. Transporting a weapon into DC is also completely illegal. Apparently, the third party Amazon seller who shipped out the 37-inch, 7.62 X 51 mm NATO caliber rifle intended it to hit a gun dealer in Pennsylvania. Not some guy in DC.


Cops confiscated the gun and got it the hell out of there, so things turned out okay?but what if this weapon, described by Sig Sauer as "the rifle of choice when you require the power of a larger caliber carbine," had been mailed to a kid? Or, you know, a criminal? It's easy enough to buy a gun online?now they're just showing up at your door for no reason.

Meanwhile, there's a gun dealer in PA watching the news report of this on his nice new TV :1orglaugh

You must not know how purchasing guns online works. It's not like UPS ships it to your house for you. The gun must be shipped to a local store with an FFL. You still are required to pass the background check as well, not like buying private party, where you can buy a gun with no paperwork in a lot of states.

This was an accident, with a fortunate ending, that is all.

How the hell is this a "giant" assault rifle? It's not even a particularly large assault rifle, or even a large rifle at all. Most hunting rifles are much larger.
