If a blog gets steady traffic do you keep updating?

If a blog that you haven't touched in 6 months is getting steady traffic (1-4k a month) and you haven't updated it do you go for it and get it updated on a regular basis or do you not touch it and ride the way?

digitalfantasies 08-09-2012 12:25 PM

depends on the sales

digitalfantasies 08-09-2012 12:27 PM

Every blog I start gets a lot of love in the beginning, fresh unique content for a while... When I do not get result, I focus more on the blogs that do convert and expand those blogs

I'd probably update unless you're using some sort of auto blogging technique that creates duplicate content or other gray/black hat methods.

Also, I'd advise to look at exactly where the majority of traffic is coming from and from which keywords and work from that info. Also, sometimes it's better to add more to or update a post itself rather than create a new one.

If the majority of traffic is type ins or from referral links, then new posts would be beneficial regardless of SEO :upsidedow

Traffic is 85% from Dr. G. I have no idea if it makes sales or not. I should put campaigns on more things to see where things convert.

I shouldn't say that I don't make sales. I do, just no idea where from.

I would personally update at least once then see what happens visitor wise , if i get more keep updating if i get less stop updating etc.

don't touch it

I've had sites like this and still do. I've seen updates grow traffic and kill it. Check your keywords, what you're trying to target, etc. Keep it relevant and hope for the best.

I only update some of my blogs. I've had problems with updating a blog with just 1 new post and then a few days later, 70% of my Google traffic will be gone (on some I will gain it all back and a little bit more and on some it won't come back). Then on the other hand, I have a few blogs that I can update and I will only gain traffic.

You pretty much just have to play around with your blogs and find out which ones would be good to update (and benefit you) and which ones you should just leave as is.

If you write good relevant content that is related to your blog and targeted keywords with a good keyword density, then it will rise. If you write crap or things that you shouldn't do then it will fall. :upsidedow
