Just got a page indexed by google within an hour of creation

Depends. If you submit it manually, it might take longer, but if a link to your site was first found on another site - things can go faster.

Was it a whole new website, hosted blog, or just a new page of an existing website?

New page on a site is usually minutes.

Yeah it's normal now lol. It's cool too. They do image and content update crawls faster now it seems, and it's because they start at the server level with their bot or whatever, not just with a simple web spyder indexer.

I can't remember exactly I'd have to find it again but it was in a piece either by Google or on some tech-nut news site...

I'v seen things indexeded in minute,for example i would post a thread with some question on some forum and i'l continue to search on google for answer and saw my thread in minute ranking first for query.
