London tourism rates plunge during Olympics

Quote:

Many businesses complain they are being sidelined as tourists make a beeline for the Olympic Games and avoid the capital's other attractions and shopping destinations, while non-sports fans opt to stay at home or delay their trips.

Retailers hoping for an Olympics boost appear to have suffered an early drop in business as visitors stay away from central London due to fears of overcrowding.

A week in and expectations of a major boost to growth are rapidly being downgraded. There are certainly plenty of overseas tourists in London, but the capital always has lots of foreign visitors at this time of year. Net tourism would be down if the number of potential visitors deterred by horror stories about gridlock and fears about being ripped off exceeded the numbers coming to London for the judo, athletics and beach volleyball. Evidence of half-full hotels suggests this may be the case. An additional issue is the per-capita spend of the two categories of tourists. Someone coming to London to watch sport for two weeks is likely to spend less than someone who hits the shops of the West End and Knightsbridge every day for a fortnight.

yes

london businesses are going bust.

wed were sold the ol;ipics on 3 lies.
1. it would get kids fit and heathy. so far no effect.

2. it would make london businesses rich. so far the oppersite. many are making a loss and london is empty.

3. it would be done on £2 billion. instead they put the butget up to somtrhing like £11 billion so they could claim they are under.

they also said it would re-generate poor areas of london. only a small area has been improved.

still i do not care. i am not in london so i do not have to pay for it.

as i pointed out the new mission to mars was about £1 billion but will last years. to me thats for more value for your bucks.

So far no effect? Did you think the Olympics would come to town and a week later everyone would have lost 10 pounds?

So seriously, what exactly were you expecting to happen?

A lot of hotels tried to take advantage of the Olympics by doubling or trebling their prices. Serves them right they got less bookings.

Hahaha.. i'd love to be able to crawl inside your tiny brain and experience the world as you do for just one day. It has to be fascinating.

Yup, Britain in general is always guilty of those dirty tricks. Mind you i'm sure we're not the only country to do it.

Fuck them!
