Clarification request from accross the pond...

I was watching Wheelers and Dealers and the salesman said...

"With the price of the car and repairs, we have 1690 quid into the project. For us to make any money, we'll need to sell it for at least 2000 pounds."

So is it Pounds or Quid?

Thanks,
~Ray

Funny, my daughter and I were watching it last week and that same question came up. :winkwink:

rogueteens 08-03-2012 03:31 PM

A Quid is slang for a Pound - Like a 'Buck' is slang for a Dollar...

ie 100 Pounds = 100 Quid and 100 Dollars = 100 Bucks

ottopottomouse 08-04-2012 02:50 AM

Mike Brewer is a complete bellend.

Triple-A 08-04-2012 02:53 AM

iSpyCams 08-04-2012 06:42 AM

'Bob' (in The UK) is commonly known as a name for your Fathers Brother.

As in - 'Bobs your Uncle'

Thanks for the clarification :2 cents:

AllAboutCams 08-04-2012 08:54 AM

it sounds right but why did he not say 2 grand (well that's what i would say)
i would be more inclined to use quid most of the time

example
1 = quid
2 = 2 quid
3 = 3 quid
4 = 4 quid
5 = fiver
10 = tenner

but if it had pence i would say
.50 = ten bob
1.10 = 1 pound 10
2.60 = 2 pound 60
3.45 = 3 pound 45
4.95 = 4 pound 95
5.50 = 5 pound 50
10.41 = 10 pound 41

These guys are all winding you up. (Joking with you)

A quid is metric and a pound is Imperial.

A quid (coming for the French word Quad (meaning 4) is actually 4 times the rate of a pound)

So 1 pound = 4 quids

A "Bob" is an insult. If you really want to insult someone in England you say "Bobs your uncle" Which means Mob Monkhouse is related to you. Which is a really bad insult

Could I get 2000 Guineas instead?

12 pence = 1 shilling (a bob) (1s)
2 shillings = 1 florin ( a 'two bob bit') (2s)
2 shillings and 6 pence = 1 half crown (2s 6d)
5 shillings = 1 Crown (5s)
