vBulletin blows.

InvisionBoard is king.

Whatever it is, the server they have should be able to handle it. Probably have to increase the max number of http connections or something similar though. Hehe.

I think they've done a pretty good job getting the resources to handle the vBulletin Beast though. Wonder what they're using. Would love to know.

So now that the FRENZY has eased up. Can anyone let us know what kind of hardware this beast needs to keep purring ?

Brujah 02-13-2003 01:13 AM

Bueller ? Bueller ?

Better on everything really. I love the board.

vBulletin can scale well if you know how to set up your servers, what about those other free scripts?

Brujah 02-13-2003 01:53 AM

Invision is definitely easier on the server resources.
I think another one that is, is called FUDForum.

Invision has better mysql query optimizations and Fud has a unique approach about combining static files with a mysql setup.

I don't know anything about vB3 yet, except that it's in beta and doesn't look very great yet. It looks extremely cluttered.

Are there any high traffic sites using it - ones with millions of posts and lots of active users? That's the real test. vB has been tested.

You could be right, but I think vB is much older than the two other systems. Invision is pretty new and I think Fud is also. I know vB does have some boards with over 1,000 users on at the same time. I don't know if there are any that size using Invision. My own experience with a minimally tuned mysql server has been Invision barely breaks a sweat while at times vBulletin can load things easily.

There are 102 on http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php right now and it seems pretty quick.

I'll take a closer look at the other scripts. With vB 3.0 coming out, there are going to be some big changes whether you stay with vB or go elsewhere, so it's probably a good time to look around.

One thing that bugs me with the free forum scripts is that the groups working on them just give up after a while sometimes. I'm definitely a supporter of opensource, but it sucks when you're using a script and they stop putting out new versions.

Invisionboard is used on www.passwordforum.com - a site which does get quite a few visitors. I myself prefer openBB though.

Brujah 02-13-2003 03:19 AM

passwordforum, not bad.
50,000+ members
over 1,000,000 posts.
215 users on right now.

Most users ever online was 484 on Feb 10 2003, 10:58 PM
