vBulletin blows.
InvisionBoard is king.

Whatever it is, the server they have should be able to handle it. Probably have to increase the max number of http connections or something similar though. Hehe.

I think they've done a pretty good job getting the resources to handle the vBulletin Beast though. Wonder what they're using. Would love to know.
|
So now that the FRENZY has eased up. Can anyone let us know what kind of hardware this beast needs to keep purring ?

Bueller ? Bueller ?

vBulletin can scale well if you know how to set up your servers, what about those other free scripts?
|
Invision is definitely easier on the server resources.
I think another one that is, is called FUDForum. Invision has better mysql query optimizations and Fud has a unique approach about combining static files with a mysql setup. I don't know anything about vB3 yet, except that it's in beta and doesn't look very great yet. It looks extremely cluttered. |

One thing that bugs me with the free forum scripts is that the groups working on them just give up after a while sometimes. I'm definitely a supporter of opensource, but it sucks when you're using a script and they stop putting out new versions. |
Invisionboard is used on www.passwordforum.com - a site which does get quite a few visitors. I myself prefer openBB though.

passwordforum, not bad.
