Fuck sony products

I recently bought a new Sony camera for $400. After a month it crapped out. I tried to exchange it and the store said water damage, not under warranty. WTF??? So I sent it in to Sony for repair. They left a message, I called back. They want $800 to repair the camera. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Fuck you Sony!
Wouldn't matter if I dropped it in the ocean... $800 for a $400 camera. Just offer to sell me a new one. Oh yeah, the CSR had no supervisor to bump me to.

Panasonic.

I'm not a big fan of most sony products. Their camcorders are nice enough and last forever, but almost everything else seems cheaply made and overpriced, especially their stereos and TV's.

Yeah, I remember these nice VHS camcorders. Sony had some good products in past (like 10 years ago), but now it's just crap.

candyflip 07-30-2012 09:07 AM

I love my Sony. Would love it more if it was hook up to all this gear:

If the store says water damage then claim on insurance.

OY 07-30-2012 09:21 AM

Been trying for a long time to get a charger for my Sony NP-BD1 battery - no luck where I live..... not on the internet, unless I want to buy a "non-Sony product".... sucks.

Sarah_Jayne 07-30-2012 09:53 AM

The last camera I owned before I decided to go Cannon and not go back was a Sony. It broke pretty early into owning it and it I figured it was time to go for a real camera.

I once had a Sony DVD player.. would never play shit, always a regional coding issue.. or wouldn't read the disk. Before that had ad a cheap ass Emmerson that dad won somewhere and gave me. Never refused to play anything.

A first-generation Sony V5 8mm camcorder lasted me two decades - and I put that rig through major hell. Never needed a repair. I even sent Sony a letter praising their product.

These days...naw. I've heard too many stories from unsatisfied Sony product owners to consider buying their over-priced stuff.

got rid of my sony for the same reason, always some bullshit about unable to read disk. Got a cheapie at walmart never any issues:2 cents:

as far as warranties on water damaged cameras, no matter who's make it is , there isnt any !

tedae 07-30-2012 12:29 PM

It should have at least a 90 days manufacturer warranty, if not 12 months. Try to find email addresses or phone numbers for their corporate offices, you will probably have better luck going straight to the top with problems like this.

Captain Kawaii 07-30-2012 12:48 PM

Canon or Nikon for me. I own a Sony CCD vx2200. It had a minor issue, called Sony. Just for them to look at it and repair, parts extra, $525 at the time. Since then I check repair shit out. Since American CEO took over for a lot of products things have been shitting the bed for Sony.

Warranty - Insurance?

No insurance. I never buy those rip-off store's crap insurance.

As for 1-year warranty Sony refuses to honor the warranty, claiming I abused the camera by getting it wet.

Sony called back asking about my problem. Told them again, I will not pay $800 to repair a $400 camera.

Scott McD 07-30-2012 01:29 PM

We have more Sony products in here than most other makes. Never really had any problems with them...

Spunky 07-30-2012 01:37 PM

Don't drop it in the water!

L-Pink 07-30-2012 01:43 PM

lol, well was it water damaged? My Cadillac has a great warranty but I know General Motors won't fix anything if my street gets flooded.

You beat me to it. :2 cents::2 cents:

I would not be surprised if Chinese products eclipse Japanese ones in quality. Give it 20 years tops.

Closest it was to water was the 70%+ humidity we're having this summer.
Wasn't dropped in the toilet. Wasn't in the 2 rains we've had all summer.
Didn't spill any drinks on it.

But come on, if GM wanted 2X what you paid for your Caddy to fix it when you could just go buy a new one?

$tandaman 07-30-2012 07:24 PM

I got the Nex-7 and i am enjoying it.. my first sony camera in a few years.. i highly recommend it.

anexsia 07-30-2012 08:13 PM

Maybe things have changed now but when I worked in a camera shop and digital cameras were becoming popular...anyone that came in wanting to send one out for repair we always told them to just buy a new camera because it was so damn expensive for repairs.

CYF 07-30-2012 08:45 PM

Sony used to make good stuff. I have a bookshelf CD system from the early 90s and its a good product. My PS2 is still going strong. Newer Sony stuff sucks, and I haven't bought a Sony product since that whole rootkit fiasco in 2005.

SuckOnThis 07-30-2012 09:06 PM

The store has nothing to gain by not accepting the return. If they are saying they cannot because of water damage then there most likely is water damage.

Sunny Day 07-30-2012 09:13 PM

The return

I probably made a mistake when trying to return it. The CSR who waited on me probably knew something about cameras. If I had gone to one of the young girls who just started there I might have got the swap for a new one done.

You'd think Sony would have said sorry, but hey we'll sell you a new for $25 or 50 off.

So you're really upset that you didnt get a stupid person when you tried to return it? Was there still toilet water dripping out of the camera? Buy a new damn camera and quit yer bitching. :1orglaugh

sobecash 08-13-2012 01:43 PM
