GFY is a perfect representation of what the outside world really thinks about the porn industry.

False.

Facebook is whatever one makes it. If a person adds idiots and one-dimensional persons to their friends list, that is exactly what will be exemplified on their news feed.

I don't understand FB bashing when signing up for an account gives one all the filtering controls that one needs. If a person has any intellectual friends and they have an account, then adding them is a no-brainer. If said friend starts posting bullshit, then delete them.

Simple.

Also, there are many scientists, business leaders and companies that one can subscribe to or like on facebook.

Really.

That doesn't mean FB isn't exactly like this. It means you had to apply excessive filtering and limited your exposure, but for many people FB is exactly like GFY with ample exposure to conspiracy theories and urban legends and false rants and religious fundamentalists and extreme political views, and much more. So to the "outside world" this is fairly accurate what they'll find on FB too.

If anything, I'm not suggesting that FB should be bashed, but that GFY isn't that bad.

Excessive filtering?

Filtering implies that the content is already there and needs to be eliminated.

FB is simple. One's experience is based exactly on who/what a person adds. If one is a no-nonsense person, they shouldn't have a problem at all to begn with and will have nothing to complain about.

GFY on the other hand is completely different. What you see is what you get. Everyone's opinion (unless they're blocked) is dumped into the fray.

Welcome back, man. GFY is great because it is a democratic space. Anyone can post. BUT... it is self-policing. Post garbage and you'll get called on it. You can't get away with stuff like that posted on WaFo or DP here... Even posts with titles like those on BHW will get you a lot of censures here. Each forum has its own distinct culture. Enjoy it :)
