Rare Biz Tip (Thinking BIGGER saves you money...)

Little story I thought Id share.

I live about 250 miles from London, and recently I paid to fly a friend over from the states. I only have a 2 seater sports car, with minimal luggage space, so I looked at hiring a 'semi nice' car for the day.

I intended to drive to the dealership (20 Miles) park my car, hire their car, pay for gas, drive to the airport, park, wait for the flight, drive 250 miles back home, then drive agin to pick up my own car, and repeat the process when they left...

I added up the cost of the car, the gas, the parking and my time, and t was a silly amount... So... I thought BIG !

I decided to use an airport transfer service instead. Meaning that THEY drove up in a BMW, THEY Parked, THEY met my guest with a peaked cap and uniform on, holding a sign, and THEY carried the suitcase, and THEY drove her to my door...

Likewise, when she went back, THEY did the same....

So not only did it create a much more professional image for my guest, it saved me my own time as well...

THE COST? Less than a 10th of car rental and doing it myself !

Moral of the story? THINK BIG AND SAVE BIG...

Sometimes that is exactly the case.

A friend of mine is going with his wife and three kids to Disneyworld a little later this summer. They are here in Oregon so it is a cross country trip. Initially they just assumed it would be too expensive to fly everyone so they were going to drive. They thought they could drive straight through just taking turns driving, but once my buddy who has driven across the country convinced them otherwise they realized how long the trip would really take.

Once they added up the cost of gas, food and a few hotels along the way they realized it was actually more expensive than flying. They were able to get a deal on reduced airfare for two the kids and with all the travel time and money saved they are going to be able to stay an extra 5 days in Orlando and still spend about the same as if they would have driven.

Forget the cost. They would have killed each other.

I drove halfway across the country once. Once. I will never do it again. Doing the full country with a family? You have to be insane.

That is what I said to him. I told him that they will get to Florida and will be dreading the return drive so much that they will end up selling the car jut to buy plane tickets or they will kill the kids and dump them in a swamp.
