Few pics from my Alaska trip

Took a nice extended vacation up north to Alaska with the wife and kid. What an amazing place. Would love to move up there :Graucho

I'm still going through nearly 4k pictures...anndd figures I left my camera with the 55-250mm lens on it on the roof of the car and took off. Shattered the lens and then some idiot ran it over. Camera actually works though. Needless to say, I didn't have a zoom lens for the second half of the trip. :(

Anyway, figured you guys would enjoy some pictures.

Most of these were from the zoo with the exception of the Moose who was just wondering someone's backyard.

Independence Mine State Historical Park. Place was amazing. It was literally a mining town out in the middle of no where that has been abandoned since 1959 I think?

Note to you..

Leaving camera and lens on roof of car and driving off. Not so good.

Great photos though.

keysync 07-27-2012 10:10 AM

That's cool man. Going to Alaska is definitely on the bucket list.
So... Did you hunt for gold?

We went to a placed called Gold Dredge No. 8 and did pan for some gold. It was obviously some random rock with a few gold specks in it, but we did get some and learned how they used to do it with pans. I tried a bit at the abandoned gold mine and didn't get anything. They didn't pan there. They used some chemical process to remove the gold from the mountain, so I'm sure there wasn't any in the streams coming off the mountain.

Editing some more pictures of the glaciers and what not and will post them shortly. :thumbsup

The Ice museum looks cool..... But I couldn't live in Alaska. Way too fucking cold for me.

It's definitely one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I could move right now and I'm sure the wife wouldn't mind, we just cant leave our parents and all back here. Sucks!

It depends on the season and were at in Alaska you're at. It hit 70's up in Fairbanks while we were there. A lot of rain though, which sucks. I'm sure that would turn into snow during the fall and winter months. :winkwink:

Welcome back!

Up in Fairbanks was nice. Wasn't cold at all. It was a relief over the 95+ we've had here lately. And thanks buddy!

Incredible is an understatement! What's awesome is there is free wifi around a lot of places and you can get high speed internet out in the middle of no where up there. :thumbsup

I did as much snooping I could with the fencing and having a baby with me. There were also a TON of mosquito's around the mining town that day, so it made exploring even worse.

The ranger on our glacier cruise was explaining it to me since my wife asked the same question, but I cant remember. Something about the way the sun and light hit the ice and how dense they are. It's really wild though.
