What Is The Most Profitable Recurring Membership Price?

What is the most profitable recurring membership price? I know it depends on the site and the niche etc etc but is there a rule of thumb? I have seen everything from $19.95 - $39.95 but which one converts better and for more months?

VenusBlogger 07-26-2012 06:15 PM

with $24.95 I used to have 1300 recurring members in the good old days in just one site.

And a buddy had 10,000 members at $19.95. Do the math.

miss those days.

Only way to know for sure is to split test them all on your own traffic.

Personally, $24.95 here with lots of testing, but everybody is different.

SpeedoDave 07-26-2012 07:53 PM

Across my sites I've got different recurring and trials - my most successful rebill is $29.95 on a $4.95 trial. Old site so lots of older rebills but that seems to work.

I had an old site which lost its domain which was $14.95 trial and then $39.95 - that seemed to work as well and my next new site (2 weeks hopefully) I'm going to use that pricing structure.

$187.94/mo. Just ask Media Revenue.

If you have a really unique site and content, you might get away with charging 39.95.

The standard I see a lot on successful sites is: free / $3 trial recurring at 39, or just 24.xx a month from the start. But test different amounts and see what works for your site and traffic.

I think lower price points probably make more sense these days with so much free competition and tougher economic times.

Depends on the site and traffic.

Also to measure what works the best you need to do many, many months of testing to get the actual LTV (including rebills, upgrades, cancel offers, upsales, credits, chargebacks. etc).

One option might convert much better than another, but might result in a much lower overall LTV

A slight reduction seems to work well. 29.95 month 1 then down to 24.95 has always worked best for us.

The Porn Nerd 07-27-2012 06:07 AM

For my program we offer join any site get every site in the network. So we're limited in terms of fiddling with prices (if we change one site's price all the site's change their prices, etc).

But what works best for me is:

$34.95 one-time only (non-recurring)
$29.95 rebills at $24.95
$59.95 rebills at $49.95 (three month membership)

But as stated here, A-B (split) test differant pricing. What works for you (or me) won't work for everyone.

Good luck! :)

As our site has evolved I have settled on offering 26.95 initial followed by 24.95 per month thereafter but we have many older recurring at 19.95 and 21.95 from earlier deals.

That is the only recurring option and we have a few non recurring options which help the prospective members such as:
$28.95 for 30 days
$54.95 for 90 days
and $99.95 for a year which we advertise works out at $8.50 a month

I try not to make too many options before they "lose interest" with the over the top options I have seen at some sites

oh, had one of those annuals in this morning - a "type in" too *yay*

TubeSubmitters 07-27-2012 06:38 AM

$4.95 a month

seeandsee 07-27-2012 06:48 AM

19.95$ per month for solo model sites

Kenny B! 07-27-2012 07:00 AM

A lot of webmasters swear by having non traditional rates for trials and rebills, $2.67 and rebills of $37.54 rather than the $x.95 / $xx.95 standard pricing.

We've tested a few price points and saw very little difference.

alf6300 07-27-2012 07:02 AM

29.95$ month
49.95$ 3 months

I agree with triple-a that too many option may actually decrease conversions (the paradox of choice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Par...y_More_Is_Less )

Barefootsies 07-27-2012 07:21 AM

I personally like $29.95/month, however, it depends on the amount of content.

If I have under 1000 scenes, it's $19.95 or $24.95. If it's over 1000 scenes, it's $29.95.

Folks seem to be getting the word "profitable" mixed up with "popular" > $19.95, $29.95, etc. are "popular" prices, as many sites use these "standard" numbers, but to know which price will be most "profitable" for you requires you need to focus on your expenses -- something surprisingly few adult site owners consider, opting instead to guess at numbers and rarely thinking beyond "a higher price is obviously more profitable" > which it is not, as pricing affects sales volume.

I plan to use 29.95, 49.95 and 99.95 for my new site
I'm wondering how much member spend on each type of plan.
I don't have stats, just guess
2/5 on 1 month
2/5 on 3 month
1/5 on 1 yr

Yo Adrian 09-24-2012 09:05 AM

The answer depends on your traffic, your competitors and your own members. The only way to find that optimal number is to test them all out, thoroughly. Don't go out and see that the majority charge $19.95 and conclude that must be what works best.. for all you know that price point could all be one long line following the price set by a big paysite, for their own reasons.

thickcash_amo 09-24-2012 09:36 AM

We rebill at $29.90 with a $19.95 cancel offer that works best for us. Membership includes access to the network which helps
