Hey GFY - I own the domain FindPot.com.

A couple years ago i began to develop a dispensary listing site to compete with weedmaps (which sold to a public company for a few million a couple years ago.)

But because of the looming threat of criminalization of medical marijuana i halted production. I'd really like to do something with this name. Anybody have any ideas? Or interested in a joint venture? I know there's got to be some safe and legal way to monetize this name.

I'm a legit medical marijuana patient (i have a doctor's recco) and live in California. Also i have cash to invest for production/marketing, etc. Hit me up on icq if you'd like to discuss. Thanks. :pimp

Interesting idea, Shoebox. I had considered merchandise on the original site... but i feel that there may be greater opportunity than just that because of the name..?

I'd personlly do the weedmaps clone. Just stick to listing states with medical weed.

IMO the only real use for that domain would be a weedmaps clone. Why are you afraid of anything? You aren't going to be selling it, simply offering a resource to medical marijuana patients. I am not sure how you could be prosecuted for anything.

Anyway I am currently developing numerous sites in the MMJ industry, maybe we could do something that would be mutually beneficial. Feel free to hit me up if you want. :thumbsup

I'm not afraid of anything legally.. I'm just concerned that dispensary advertising revenues would be low because they are being systematically shut down and/or going to a delivery-only model.

I live in SF and there used to be a dispensary on virtually every block. Today many have closed.. so while i'm not concerned about any sort of prosecution, i am concerned that dispensary ad revenues may not justify development and operational costs. Make sense? In short, i'm concerned that the (once GREAT) revenue model may not be viable in today's current MMJ legal climate.

If they become criminalized, maybe turn the site into an activists website to re-legalize them with some kind of "Get 1,000,000 people to e-sign this petition and tell your friends!" and other things like that with social networking sharing links all over..? :upsidedow

Gotcha.

While things are taking a turn for the worse right now in Cali, other states are just now legalizing. So IMO there would always be good advertising revenues if you don't focus solely on California. While they may not be what they once were, I think they would be well worth the effort.

The way I look at it is that it is a growing industry. Too many states have legalized at this point to all fall back into nothing IMO.

Weedmaps is definitely the leader right now. Get the search engine rankings and cut your price lower and you shouldn't have a problem getting the advertising bucks. These dispensaries are BANKING and IMO would throw you the advertising money even if they are already advertising on Weedmaps. More customers to them = more $$ in their pocket. Of course tie in all of the other avenues for income as Weedmaps has over the past few years.

I still meet many people who have not heard of Weedmaps.
