Breaking Bad question

Does it get better? I never watched it on TV. Began watching it on Netflix. The pilot was pretty bad ass... I mean, it doesn't get better than that for an opening scene where you just MUST sit down and watch to see what the fuck is going on.

But ... seems to me to be kinda flat lining by episode 6, season 1. Kinda lost interest in watching it.

Everyone is talking about it. Does it get dramatically better or what? Does my taste just suck? It's like watching Season 5 of Sopranos where each episode becomes a little harder to watch.

StickyGreen 07-23-2012 03:25 PM

The first few seasons are the best, now they just seem desperate to keep the story going...

CourtneyR 07-23-2012 03:26 PM

i think it gets better. some episodes are definitely more intense then others though.

cybermike 07-23-2012 03:27 PM

Overall its the best god damn show out there!

TheSquealer 07-23-2012 03:28 PM

One thing I was impressed with though was the pilot and opening scene. One of the few times where I've sat there thinking "OK, doesn't matter if this show sucks or not... i have to watch this and know whats going on here"

It is actually quite sensible.

RKPhoto 07-23-2012 04:45 PM

The show definitely takes unexpected turns and gets extremely dark at times... each season opens with a scene that foreshadows the events to come similar to the pilot episode... it's just a brilliant show

TheSquealer 07-23-2012 05:58 PM

I do like the idea of a high school teacher who's dying - cooking the best crystal meth around and going gangster. I feel like I had a few teachers that could have went through route or did without our knowledge.

ShoeBox 07-23-2012 06:10 PM

i think im going to get into this but is it even worth it?

sicone 07-23-2012 06:44 PM

Each season so far has had a few episodes that were pretty slow, but the do add in a lot details that tie in later. Definitely one of the best series on TV right now. This current season will be the last one.

The actor who plays Jesse tweeted that they will start filming the 6th season in November....

danevans 07-23-2012 06:52 PM

I did not expect them to continue shooting after the last season (they could have easily ended it there, he won, yay), the extra season might seem forced but ppl are going to watch it anyway, and it will still probably be better than most cookiecutter shows on tv

6th season, meaning the second half of the divided 5th season.

Season 5 is the final season, but it is divided into two 8 episode each segments. The first 8 airing currently and the final 8 airing next spring.

If you liked the pilot, you should definitely watch the whole series. Like others have said, it does slow down at times but that is where allot of the details are set that make sense in later episodes.

TheSquealer 07-23-2012 07:40 PM

Made it through season 1 - to episode 8. Kinda starting to turn a corner now where I want to watch the whole thing. Dudes turning into a reluctant bad ass. :)

That is the key to this show :thumbsup

He starts out a big pussy and turns into one nasty bastard, and one hell of a fucking manipulative fucker!

Oh I thought he meant it would be a whole new season since he said 6... that's weird...

bronco67 07-23-2012 08:27 PM

Just stick with it....overall its a wild ride, and there's no way you can imagine where it is now in Season 5. It's just the best show on TV.

Well, at least we know that Jesse will make it through the first 8 episodes.:thumbsup

Relentless 07-23-2012 08:56 PM

Good stories are roller coasters, not drag races. The slow clacking ride up hill at some points is what gives the plot enough height and the action enough depth to be exciting and satisfying. 300 miles per hour all the time gets boring fast. It's why shows like breaking bad and books like game of thrones hold the attention of an audience for decades... while 'America's zaniest car chases' gets really old and boring really fast. Enjoy the slow build, it leads to a much more intense bang. During 4+ years of the show, arguably the single best scene of the entire story is a Hispanic man slowly walking from a parking lot into an old age home by himself. Subtle brilliance.

Danny B 07-24-2012 12:21 AM

It's an awesome show and the slowing down every other episode just sets things up for more fireworks.

This is why you never take female advice on pop media.

It is worth sticking with, but it clearly peaks in seasons 1-2.

no, its good throughout.. hence why it is this popular and continues to win awards...

Michael O 07-24-2012 06:54 AM

I dropped it half way into season 2

Freaky_Akula 07-24-2012 07:25 AM

It is a good show, but they have too many slow episodes that do not add any value.

Theo 07-24-2012 09:18 AM

Who's the woman in the last episode?

Vapid - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-24-2012 09:20 AM

Gustavo Fring's daughter.

Ross 07-24-2012 09:29 AM

Great show, stick with it, you won't be sorry.

I highly doubt that
An associate, yes. Daughter... unlikely

Gus liked pawns and distance between himself and his associates. It was one of the things that made him much stronger than Tuco, Salamanka and the Mexican Cartel that allowed family feelings to affect their decisions.

I think it's Gus's wife..

I doubt that too. The black guy he had working with him last season tailing Walt and showing up with him to straighten out Salamanka was probably not his son, brother, nephew or anything else either.... but will be interesting to find out for sure :winkwink:

"Lydia is a former associate of Gus Fring who works for Madrigal Electromotive GmbH. She is also a single mother, raising a young daughter."

"After attending a meeting between Madrigal's board of directors and the DEA, Lydia met with Mike inside a diner. She requested that he personally eliminate most of the remaining people with links to Gus. He refused, leaving her helpless and panic-stricken. Unbeknownst to Mike, Lydia had hedged her bets beforehand by making the same pitch to another man, Chris, who Mike eventually executed.

At her home in Houston, after returning from work to where her daughter and hired nanny were waiting, Lydia was quietly ambushed by Mike. He prepared to kill her for mandating the deaths of Chris and Chow. Lydia pleaded for him not to make her body disappear, worrying that it would cause her daughter to believe herself abandoned. Her life was spared at the last second when Mike cut her a deal: she must use her resources to supply him with methylamine."

By the way, that actress was awesome, and so was the writing. I knew everything I needed to know about her with a few lines of dialogue.

Relentless 07-24-2012 02:23 PM

She also happens to be right. Mike's soft spot for 11 loose cannons is a blind spot. Where she screwed up was thinking one of his own men would be best able to take him out. He trained Chris... she would have been better off hiring an outsider who Mike never knew. 2cents

boziffous 07-24-2012 11:33 PM

Keep watching Squealer, I think you'll enjoy each new season more and more.

I'm thinking Lydia might also be Gustavo's baby mama.

I agree. a lot of people hate it for some reason and I know there was a really boring stretch in the past season, but I think thats because they didn't plan on this being a big success and needed to draw out the episodes to record more :1orglaugh

You're insane, last season was easily the best. Walt's personal journey so much darker, so much pent up tension.. For me the writing hit it's peak then.. some of the scenes with his wife.. "I am the one who knocks".
And less of his son eating breakfast..

Seriously - right now Sunday night is the only night with something worth watching.
We're two episodes into the new season and it's pins and needles every episode so far. Shit is just so dark.

What's this? a blunt, ok.

TheSquealer 07-29-2012 05:41 PM

OK... watched seasons 1-4 on Netflix. My opinion.... didn't like some things along the way, like his wifes initial reaction to his "strange behavior" and eventually leaving him. Anyone just being told they are going to die is going to get a little whacky. I didn't like his persistence in working with Jesse when he was so clearly nothing but a fuckup that would eventually get both of them killed. I don't see that happening in the real world, nor do I see a highly educated, highly intelligent person not doing the "he'll get us both killed' math. I would have buried him in the desert by mid season 1.

I did like how they grew, matured and changed over the course of 4 seasons and at the end of the day, no matter what may be wrong with it, i was definitely looking forward to watching the next episode.

Now I get why everyone was so excited to see the first one of Season 5. Obviously the stage was set for a big show. Kinda pissed i missed it now. Definitely a lot of things came to a big end in Season 4. Looking forward to continuing to watch it.
