Macbook Pro users with an external monitor

I'm having a problem where after about 20 mins or so of the machine shutting off the screens while it renders, I can not turn the screens back on unless I close the Macbook top, re-open it, and then press a key or the touch pad. Touching the pad or a key prior to doing that does not work.

If it shuts off after 5 - 10 mins, it will turn back on no problem, but after about 20 is when this happens.

Is this normal or is there a setting somewhere to adjust this?

Thanks.

I don't have any issues, but that is what I expect when I pay $100 for a fucking cable to connect the two.

Sys pref/power saving/sleep screen = never

or something like that, can't be arsed to look.

$100 for a cable?!?! What kind of evil sorcery do you have in the western world that I don't know about?

Are you using 10.7? Possibly 10.7.4? The Lion OS has some issues with handling SSDs, so if this isn't a hardware issue, I'm guessing it's because of a shitty coded OS.

Just to be sure, you could run the Apple Hardware Test from the install CD.

Thunderbolt, I imagine.
