When I was a child, my mother hardly took us to have McDonalds. She was gone a lot, but made meals ahead of time for us.

It's wrong to place 100% of the blame on McDonalds. Parents need to teach kids about healthy food, to take the time to cook and prepare healthier dinners and eat more at home. When I was a kid, McDonalds was a "treat" that we only got to have once in a while.

Today parents are too lazy to compete against McDonald's flashy advertising, or don't want to spend the time it takes for a home cooked meal. Sure McD's has veins of evil blood, but so do some parents.

Some of the facts on here are extremely shocking, didn't think McDonald's had that much market share. Also didn't think they distributed more toys than Toys R Us

Maybe someday we could put pressure on parents to be responsible for the diets of their children, instead of raging witch hunts against harmless businesses.

Yes, equally let's be annoyed at the parents of drug addicts too, not the drug dealers.

As a parent I have to admit that it is easy to take my kids to McD, but when my 2 years old daughter told me "no beans, give me nugget in baby talk" I knew we had to slow down on the happy meals!

In this case both parents and McD share the blame. The parents for taking the easy route and not teach their kids good eating habits from the get go and McD for knowingly selling food that they know should not be consumed for the long run.

Let's also not forget that most people have no clue on how to eat properly so it is far fetched to think they can teach their kids about food.

If it's the parents buying the drugs then we should :2 cents:

happy meal is the only thing that feels happy about McDonalds

I don't think kids are fat today because of Happy Meals. When I was a kid we spent most of our time outside; Watching TV was something we did only because we really liked a TV show and was only for half an hour at a time two or three times a week. Potato chips were was something we had in the house only when we had parties; Snack food was fruit or vegetables.

Americans are fat today because of our portions. When I go to my favorite Italian restaurant, I get a plate full of food - and right out of the gate I know I'm taking half of it home with me.

We didn't have fast food in my hometown at all - and still don't. (Califon, NJ) Even the surrounding towns didn't have fast food, although I've heard now that Clinton has a McDonalds. Fast food was a treat we got when we down to my Grandmother's house - It was a Hardees. One time at my Aunt's house they ran out to the "drive through" and got hot french fries - which blew my mind as a kid.

McDonald's used to be a treat when I was little. Something my parents would do once in a while. Now I see the kids from the local schools lining up in there during their lunch hours! who the heck gives them so much money? They certainly aren't working jobs around here. Kids these days don't even babysit.
