GoPro Camera

I just purchased one of these GoPro cameras online (HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition). I've been wanting one for a long time and finally decided to buy one. It looks like it takes amazing videos and time lapse photos.

Anyone else have one and have any reviews of it? Any likes/dislikes?

No, but I've been trying to choose between the Contour or the GoPro for mountain biking videos.. share some clips once you get it going :thumbsup

I recently picked up an older version of the GoPro at Costco for $199, and have just started playing around with it. The wide angle takes a little getting used to, as does the delay between when you press the shutter and when it actually releases, but it is so compact that I will probably mount it to my video camera and just let it click away for time lapse, and it looks like it will be pretty cool for POV and wet shooting too (with the waterproof housing).

Pretty fun camera. I will probably get the new version before too long. I've brainstormed dozens of ideas to try out, although so far, I've have only used it for BTS stuff (I haven't edited any videos yet):

Not going to replace my Canon's and Nikon's, but definitely a cool little gadget/accessory at a great price. I wish that I had stock in that company... :thumbsup

From same photo sets, shot on a Canon:

I'll post up some photos and videos once I start using the GoPro for real shoots.

It's a bad ass little camera and great for it's intended use. The audio sucks pretty bad when it's in the water case but that's to be expected. Most people put music to the action videos so it's not really an issue.

Its a great camera for what its intended to be....you wouldnt want to shoot porn with it for sure except maybe as ADG suggested but for any outdoor sports its amazing.

its also a great entry level camera for scuba diving its the only camera at that price that can go to 150 feet

its designed for bright light so underwater it gets a bit grainy even the the hero2 with the underwater housing attachment but for the money its the shit....

Have three of them and absolutely love them.

Use the mainly for auto videos and they do a fantastic job.

Really really want to get the new ones with the remote / streaming features as it would save a hell of a lot of battery life.

I use GOPRO during my shoots to just be a backup camera to catch the little things as I film away - its low cost, works well and adds another dynamic to shooting.. :D five tits up!

Great for outdoor shooting. Indoor/low-light, not so much

I have one in my racecar, takes great pics, but the battery life is crap, and is normally dead after qualifying and first race!!

That's why I bought the battery pack along with the display attachment.

what he said...

we have 2 or 3 and use them for example as voyeur cams or outside on cars, bikes or whatever. the picture quality is great, sound not so much.

I am a huge gopro fan and picked one up this last Feb. I mostly use it for fishing, this fall I will use it for hunting.

After seeing the videos my buddy was making with his, it sold me. My editing sucks compared to his but the quality is the same.

Friends video shot with gopro.

Get the display attachment -- it's hard to see in full sunlight, but worth it

The wide angle does impart a challenge, but the uber-flexible mounting options kick ass

Mount it on a handheld shower head and let your model get wet :winkwink:

Awesome for POV

That's a dangerous fish to be in the water with.

Great ideas. When it's not in the case, you could lay it flat on your pelvic facing up for an interesting POV view.

It has it's place in porn if used creatively and sparingly. It would blend well with other video when you use another audio source.

mikesouth 07-17-2012 11:49 AM

one thing for divers...forget the floaty back it will work if you frop it in the water but if you dive with it the pressure compresses the floaty back at about 50 feet and it will sink to the bottom.

Gopro on my trackbike

candyflip 07-17-2012 12:56 PM

My partner and I just picked up two of them to use for some shots at a wedding we're shooting this weekend.

Going to mount them to some vehicles. And we're also going to try hanging one from a balloon.

THe guy that made the GoPro camera has made a fortune, the company was featured in Inc or FastCompany.

Elli 07-17-2012 05:03 PM

My hubby's friend has a DriftHD http://driftinnovation.com/ for his 1/4 mile turbo civic. The audio is shit, but there's a $15 external mic which is fairly decent. The battery life is about 90 minutes in 1080, 3 hours in 720. It has a rotatable lens on the front so you can mount it at different angles. Also, there's an LCD screen on it so you can proof your shot. Nice little unit. No waterproof and no lens cap for the fisheye as far as I know. It was $250cdn with a suction cup car mount and helmet and goggles mounts.
