Indiana father accidentally shot dead by 3-year-old son

(Reuters) - An Indiana father watching television with his children was accidentally shot to death by his 3-year-old son after the boy found a loaded handgun nearby, police said on Saturday.

Michael Payless, 33, was found dead in the southern Indiana town of Salem on Friday night.

Payless was watching television with two of his children when the other child, a 3-year-old boy, found the gun.

"The child accidentally discharged the loaded handgun ... Michael A. Payless was pronounced dead at the scene," an Indiana state police statement said.

Payless, with his wife, three children, and another juvenile, had been at the house doing some remodeling work, the statement said.

Sure, I bet if you had sons or daughters they will figured out the passwords and your hiding space.

The kids are smarter than you are...trust me..I was a kid once with a lot of time to figure shit out.

That's like saying you shouldn't own a website because people might figure out the FTP or DB passwords. I hope you're not making that argument.

Having a semi auto laying around that needs chambered is still having a gun handy and is pretty much childproof if found.

bronco67 07-14-2012 10:28 PM

Too bad he forgot that a 3 year old likes to play with anything that's not nailed down.

bronco67 07-14-2012 10:53 PM

Ever notice that no one ever gets grazed in non-vital areas by a 3 year old who found a loaded gun? They're always expert marksmen.

Two big mistakes here. Letting a moron look after kids and letting him own a gun.

Sorry three mistakes. Add, letting morons reproducing. LOL

Three years ago, when this guy was in the hospital holding his new waterheaded baby fresh from his fat wife's rotten poon -- he had no idea that this little harmless thing would someday take his life.

When the parent survives they will probably make up a lie if they have to go to the hospital.

John-ACWM 07-16-2012 06:15 AM

That's no way to hide a gun...

tony286 07-16-2012 06:32 AM

I remember years ago I had read about technology, where you would have wear a ring with a micro chip in it to fire the gun. Without that ring the gun wouldnt fire. That would end all the accidental deaths tomorrow but you would still be able to act quickly in a home invasion situation.

adult-help 07-16-2012 06:42 AM

all i can say is : america & guns - fuck yeah!

Tam 07-16-2012 07:45 AM

We have several guns in my home and always have had them, but they stayed way up out of the reach of our babies and locked and unloaded. Ammo locked up in a completely different place in the house.

It was only recently when my puppy and I were being attacked by a pitbull did we load every single one of them and put them back under lock and key, but they are loaded now. All of my kids but one is gone now, and she is 14 and knows the respect of guns. They all know how to shoot them and always have.

If you have to have them, make sure they are the kids are always taught to respect the power and of them and that the results are not changeable... people with kids and guns that don't show respect to both... well. that just scares me!

JP-pornshooter 07-16-2012 11:14 AM

Big difference between shooting someone in the leg vs their body and killing them. had to have been a pretty good shot...

I bet the father called himself a responsible gun owner. Just like ANY other gun owner you ask. Oh yeah and ofcourse he had that gun to protect his family.

I highly doubt that. And even if they don't, they should.
