Thats how it looked before:
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...14448891_n.jpg 16 Buffalo NAS from 750 gb to 8 tb - bought over the last 6-7 years. No. 17 had just died 2 weeks ago Total space maybe 30tb gross This is how it looks now: http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...62809475_n.jpg Threw the 4 oldest out and use the other 12 only for backup. Everything is now on the new storage on the left. The beast: http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...15035168_n.jpg Synology DS1812+ & DX510 expansion unit. 13 HDs with 3tb each = 39tb gross and 32tb net RAID5 and A LOT faster than the old crap. :pimp |

some of the old ones are horrible, they are really annoying. but once all data is copied i can switch most of them off. and of course we have AC in that room |
You should look into Drobo's http://www.droboworks.com/Drobo-5D.asp
|
Very nice! :thumbsup

Drobo is the new way to do, it has dual protection dual drive redundancy to protect your data at all times.
You can get them in cat5, usb 3.0 and thunderbolt. Lighting fast data transfer rates. Witht e Drobo's you do not have to match all the drives for raid unlike the older NAS systems. You can load 1 TB, 500GB, 2TB, 1.5TB, 3TB its just great! The old NAS systems are single drive redundancy, not as good nor the data transfer rates. http://www.droboworks.com/images/Dro...bo-5d-left.jpg |

Looks good :)

|
btw - those storages are the reason why our clients will receive their content always in the shortest possible time, neatly sorted with all docs.
because we have 9 years of productions in original format always available at a mouseclick, i just need to attach an external drive and can start copying right away :) |
Thats a shit load of content :thumbsup
|
awesome easy set up!
|
how much for the new synology set up? I've been to all the dealer sites and no one gives out prices without signing up. Thanks in advance.

but you can also get for example the DS1512+ with five 3TB drives which is about 1260 Euro ($1540) (also without VAT - german prices) |
Make sure you have good power protection (online UPS) and a power LINE CONDITIONER.
|
Just wondering, how much your entire content library contain space overall ?

I bought the Drobo last year and I suppose I am satisfied with it. In general I use it with USB 3 as it is much faster than LAN.
If I was buying today I would probably go for the Synology units like yours. |

and for some reason electronics in CZ are often more expensive than in Germany. Also i can buy directly without VAT and dont have to deal with software or keyboards that come in czech :) |
That is a Hell of a system
Impressive.
|
You should definitely consider RAID6, otherwise make sure you're on top of running RAID verifies.
|
Big Pimpin' :pimp
