Learn from me: DONT paint your own car!
:mad::mad::mad:
I took my car to the BMW a while ago and some young idiot tried to buff my trunk and destroyed the clear coat. I let it go on for some while, looked like crap and two weeks ago was going to a meeting and the potential client said "wow, whats wrong with your trunk?" So I had enough and thought, I can do this myself, how hard can it be... its ONLY the trunk?!? I'm now well over $200 in and need to go to the auto store tomorrow to buy yet more primer and paint to try and get this done before I have to leave to go out of town Thursday :helpme Here is the cliff notes: Bought rubbing compound, buffed, polished... looked like shitty crap Stripped all paint off car... almost all of it. primed & painted. looked good but high spots stood out. After clear coat, looked like there was something under the paint. Stripped it all again. re-primed and painted, now have orange peel because my paint gun is junking out. Spent tonight wet sanding until my arms fell off, then sanded it down to the primer and going in the morning to prime and paint again. Ugh :mad: |
why didnt you get BMW to fix their fuckup?
and yeah people should learn from this. painting panels so they match the car needs to be left to the pros :2 cents: i tried to rebuild my engine once :1orglaugh i ended up with the camshaft up my arse and my friend felating the gear shift wait what |

I filed complaints, even called BMW corporate and nothing. Place is such a rip off and people that work there morons. I hate the dealer and drive 20+ minutes further to go to one in another town |
I had same experience with a bike i had, thought I would strip it down and make it nice. But ended up not being able to put it back together :1orglaugh

I have an old truck I'm doing an on road restoration on, and it needs to have it's door and roof painted. I've been considering doing it myself. I figure I honestly couldn't make it worse, and that's sort of the point of the restoration - to learn new things.
However, I think painting a car is like an art form. I would imagine it's not something you do once and get it right. I was thinking I'd buy an hold hood or something practice on it first. |
there is an art to a good paint job, let a professional do it

I spray painted my car with black paint Krylon from Walmart

My dad went to buy a car from them, went into the showroom and asked if anyone wanted to sell a car today. One guy came out and just dicked around showing him cars. Instead, he drove an hour to another dealership to buy one. I'm thinking of starting a campaign against them, when people search for their dealership I show my complaint site. An attorney I talked to said this could end badly for me and they could sue for loss of business and character. |
Go to MAACO http://www.maaco.com/ they have a special running for just $299.

Had the same thing happen to me. Bought a new car but there were specs of dirt in the paint. (Black paint). The idiot salesperson brings it to the idiot "body man" who tries to buff it out, leaving insane swirl and scratch marks all over the hood. I didn't even drive the car off the lot yet. When I see it I refuse to take delivery because the hood now looks like shit. The salesman has the nerve to ask me whats wrong. Douche.

I knew a guy who dropped about 120k into an M3 and regretted not just buying an M5 or M6.
