It is pretty amazing to me how passionate people are about this case. I was just on the CNN website reading their article on his release and the comments are pretty wild. It seems like people either think he is a murderer or he is a victim. There seems to be no middle ground.Comment

Kane, I agree no middle ground. For the most part I believe everyone should have their day in court. My issue with Zimmerman supporters is that most of them support him just cause he killed a black kid. I don't want to get into a racial back and forth but I have read, spoken and watched commentary of supporters and it makes zero sense.
The other day a friend of mine posted a story about a white girl getting raped by 5 black guys and then she wrote "Why isn't this an issue like T. Martin". It pissed me off cause I think to myself BOTH are tragedies!!! Somehow people want to belittle the fact a young man was killed who did absolutely nothing wrong.
If he beat up Zimmerman, I'd say it was well deserved. Most of us would defend ourselves if some idiot was following us around and eventually approached us. Truth is Zimmerman was going to use his gun some day in his life, no matter what. Unfortunately for Treyvon it happened to be on him.
Most people buy guns for protection, others buy them to flaunt them and act tough. Zimmerman is a perfect poster boy for someone who shouldn't own a gun. Yep, if nothing else this case proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that race is still a major issue in this country.
For me this whole case will come down to the physical evidence and Zimmerman's credibility which is already badly damaged. If it appears that he was just walking back to his car to go meet the police and Martin jumped him, you can see how Zimmerman would defend himself and had a right to do so. If it appears that Zimmerman chased the kid down and confronted him which led to the fight he is going to have a much more difficult time saying it was self defense.Comment

I'm not so sure the media plays that big of a role in it. Sure it can fan the flames a little bit, but I think parents and upbringing are a bigger part of it. I think racism is deeply ingrained in a lot of people and they either don't recognize it or admit it, but the freedom and anonymity of the internet gives them an outlet to say what they really feel.Comment

I agree with that to a large degree, but there is little doubt as to the role the media plays in stirring the pot whenever it can. Upbringing is and always will be the key ingredient, but to break the cycle is almost impossible when the media portrays black people the way it often does.

The "Stand your ground" law by the way, is pure fucking bullshit. It is nothing more than a fake law pushed through by the NRA to make it easier for people to buy even more guns.
