I like British accent but being a non-native speaker I understand American better.

baddog 07-06-2012 11:19 AM

I remember our Afghan cabbie taking us to London commented that he liked talking with me because he could understand what I was saying because I have no accent.

that illustration makes it look like their is profound ignorance on both sides of the pond to me since both perceptions being presented apply to a small minority in either population.

Correct regarding the British version, however, have you ever been somewhere with something going on in the USA? I go to several events every year in the States.. Basketball, NFL games, Baseball and it is very much like what was described. That's not to say they stand around in the streets chanting that shit, but certainly at Sporting events they do.

Aussies, not too bad; Scots, no one understands. Let's not forget the Irish. I had uncles that I never understood a freaking word they said. I remember one of my cousins admitting he had trouble understanding his own dad.

oh hell yeah, I am surrounded by loud mouthed rednecks and woo girls by the hundreds. I don't deny they exist... my point was merely that even though they are the most obnoxious and well heard, they are still a small minority of our overall population. So when I am chatting with my European friends and I am shouting "AMURICAH! FUCK YEAH!" I do not wish to shine a negative light on the rest of the populace who would be deeply shamed by my behavior :winkwink:

I've never spoke to Australians (these bastards are living on the bottom side of the Earth :)) but the Scottish accents is something special. All those "Boos" (Bus), "Coop" (Cup), "Roosian" etc...

I've lived in the US for 30+ years and American girls like my naff London accent, so I'm not complaining.

EddyTheDog 07-06-2012 08:06 PM

I like most American accents - The only one that annoys me is the one where everyone sounds gay.

It doesn't seem to be confined to one area.

Black and Asian girls with an English accent are incredibly sexy.

Shotsie 07-07-2012 11:31 AM

I don't understand what this comic has to do with accents.
