How long to edit a movie?

Quick question for the pros out there.

Once you get all your raw footage, how long does it takes for a decent video editor to make all the editing of a scene? Everything with the credits, the intro, music, etc...

For the sake of the argument, let's say it's a 30 min scenes.

how much does a car cost?

I'm looking for a ballpark... we have an editor doing for us work for an average gonzo shot. Hardcord, 1 guy, 2 girls, 30 min total. He's taking 2 days (roughly 18 hours) to make the whole thing.

I's prettry linear, shot with 1 camera and no FX beside the intro that we already provide him with...

I guess Paul Markman could teach me on that one :-)

Q: How long to edit a movie?

A: Shorter than the original movie.

To make it edited to be longer, would involve blank spaces or repeated parts, that will annoy the viewer... :2 cents:

assuming lead in/out are premade and just dropped in, the music just needs to be dropped in too, it should take about 1 hour max with that material

we never edit much, just when cuts were made, and usually my guy needs way less than an hour (without adding music/credits etc.)

but:

if you have en editor who thinks he's an artist and adds all kind of tweaks/transitions and cuts out every little detail he doesnt like then it can take longer of course.

then the question would be if the material is worth that effort (no offense) ;)

The answer always bugs me because ten seconds on Google returned:

Six more seconds:

Basic editing... with rendering... to one file format...

About 3 hours.

Worked in post production for 30 years, i have seen a 3 min rock video style take 80 hours and i have seen amateur video scenes assembled in real time.

In my opinion a basic sex scene is a day of editing, and average scene 2 days, and high end scene 4 days.

I edit at least 4 days a week 30 min Gonzo scenes (1-3 scenes a day). I would say an average gonzo scene should take 2-6 hours. If he has a older computer and it is slow on rendering and he is constantly rendering yeah he can drag it out to two days.

Just throwing this out there.... I can cut it, export, and have back on your servers in 18 hrs for a decent rate..... *Shameless plug*

MaDalton 07-06-2012 08:04 AM

i did not count encoding - thats something the computer can do without someone sitting there and charging for it

EntMediaMiami 07-06-2012 08:06 AM

wow smh.... is there logos, people, or anything else that needs to be blurred in the scenes? Sounds he has to isolate?
