To be honest, with the penny here in the UK, it's about the shops fooling people into believing something is actually cheaper than it is. So i can't see them ever scraping the penny here.

Everything you buy here is priced at something like £19.99. Or £399.99.

So people think, "oh, under £400 for a tv that's not bad". Stupid and gullible but true...

That doesn't say "No More Pennies", it's just an article about the ongoing debate of whether to stop producing them or not. This is an old topic that gets squashed everytime it comes up.

My friend has a family restaurant that has a nice hand painted sign by the register that says "We do not accept pennies, we round down in your favor." The customers love it and walk away happy and tell their friends.

I like it, get rid of the penny. It costs 2.4 cents in the U.S. to produce 1 penny. That's a complete waste of U.S. tax dollars, to the tune of about $10 billion dollars per year.

This is all you need to know about the penny and the US Government:

They produce them knowing they are doing so at a loss. And a penny is literally at the smallest level of production. Imagine how much waste goes into everything else larger than a penny. From nickles to airplanes to bombs, it is no wonder they are drowning in debt. They have to borrow 1.4 cents just to make 1 cent.

I heard they are going to have the Chinese produce our pennies for 1.5 cents next year.:winkwink:

Worked with my ex-wife every fucking time.

You can still price 19.99 or whatever you want, but then the total is just rounded down from the penny.

High Times is actually quite informative and entertaining, if that's your thing.

The same can not be said for DVTimes.

Source for that number? According to the numbers in the article it would be a production cost of $100 million, with a loss of $60 million. While that's quite a bit, it is still just a fraction of the $10 billion you quoted.

LeeD, right it's actually about $100 million. I said $10 billion dollars but it was $10 billion pennies.

Ah ok, didn't know if there might be a different number floating around that could have been correct.
