South FL people- Fastest Internet Plans?
I'm moving locally in South Florida this weekend and want to upgrade my internet speeds as much as possible in my new house. I've been suffering mediocre internet speeds with AT&T DSL for years. What's the best bet for download & upload speeds? I don't care about voice service or tv service and any associated bundles because I am happy with Sprint cell service and DirecTV.
Looks like my options are the following for high-sped internet only: (UL Mbps / DL Mbps) 1- Comcast Residential: 20/2 Mbps, 30/5 Mbps, 50/10 Mbps & 100/10Mbps at $29/month (for 6 mo's), $49/month (for 6 mo's), $114/month & $199/month respectively, but with 250 GB monthly bandwidth caps. 2- Comcast Business: 12/2 Mbps, 22/5 Mbps, 50/10 Mbps & 100/10Mbps at $59/month, $99/month, $189/month & $369/month respectively. According to what I read online though there is supposedly no 250 GB monthly bandwidth cap. 3- Verizon FIOS (possibly, if available in the Fort Lauderdale area):15/5 Mbps, 50/25 Mbps & 75/35 Mbps at $69/month, $79/month & $89/month respectively. Looks like this with the fast upload speeds and low price may be the best bet if available. What's your experience for the best service? Who is using Comcast or FIOS in South Florida? |
At home I'm on uverse 10 to 11 mbs to download 1.5 to upload. I would suggest you go with comcast as it is a business that you run.
Fyi the dedicated 100 mbs, I mentioned to you with comcast never happened. They couldn't get the line, and dedicated prices are going down fairly fast down here. |
Although I'm not in Florida, I've been with Comcast for what seems to be forever (10+ years) and I absolutely hate them with a passion. If I had the chance to get fios out here in bum-fuck, I wouldn't hesitate.

I don't think FiOS is in FTL yet. That's what I had in Maryland and when moving here last year wasn't an option. Comcast Residential has been great here though.

I have Comcast Business 22/5, no issues since 2007. You were on my WiFi during your shoots at my house and everything functioned flawless.:2 cents:

go to Comcast.com and see what is available to you.
There is no FiOS in South Florida as it's AT&T territory so just U-Verse is available in limited areas. I'm on 15/3 Comcast performance tier in Ft Lauderdale There is no 250GB soft cap any more while Comcast is testing a 300GB cap with overage fees. There is a 30/5 residential plan I think and the 105/15 Comcast business will be at least $200 to install and minimum 1yr contract |
No good options, ATT has great up time but slow as shit, Comcast is fast but it goes out all of the time. Pick your poison.

i have comcasts business 22/5 and its great.
the benefit of the business plan is if you go down they have a tech out to you the same day unlike the residential where you have to take the next avail appt |
Damn guys...that sucks.
I've had residential 50 mbs down and 5 mbs up for 3 years here in Vegas. |
I Have a buddy with Verizon fios and his internet is much better then my Comcast !!

Am droping comcast ( cable ) next october in Pompano .... always dropping .. .and service is non-existent .
Not sure who I will go for ... |
Thanks for the comments guys, looks like Comcast Business may be the best option. I may try the 50/10 for $189 since that has the fastest upload speed which I may take advantage of to deliver content. I even have a good 4G Wimax signal through Sprint in my new home that I am using to tether my laptop right now until I can get new service this week. I'm glad I returned the new Evo 4G LTE recently and went back to my original Evo 4G recently!
