it's getting worse & worse. Majority of my business is destroyed right now because I was stupid to depend on SEO. Hard lesson learned.

I did see a small drop but returned to normal yesterday.

I went from absolutely no google love to very little google love over the last month or so, so I feel kind of good about it right now. Still the results are nowhere near worth the effort but I'm doing stuff by the book so eventually... they will write a new book and I'll have to do it all again.

I avoid SEO.

If you are really good at it then google will decide it is unfair and penalize you,
at least it seems that way.

If you are getting more google traffic than ever now then I would be careful about
doing more SEO on it.

I don't have any proof but I truly believe that google gives "reward points" to websites
that they have crawled for a long time and they have never detected any "slick" SEO.

I stress that this is just my gut feeling and not a fact.

We all know it too but try telling it to Matt Cutts or anyone over at Google. For niche adult terms it's all tubes which scrape content and use sponsor descriptions. That is exactly the type of sites Google has been claiming to target. Yet those sites remain and people with unique content get penalized.

MrCain 06-27-2012 08:04 AM

Traffic is up on my splogs and on my 7 year old guestbooks.

But consider this. When surfers click those links they stay on the site for a long
time. So is google going to move their links down because they scrape when clearly
the surfers like it?

I don't think so.

If a site comes up 10th in results but 50% of surfers click that link over the other
9 then it would make sense to move that link up in the results.

Google's ultimate goal is to direct surfers to the sites they want to surf the most,
not to make rankings fair.

I suspect it's not as much time on site or bounce rate which is effectively making them whitelisted more something to do with backlinks and link profiles. There seems to be a pattern where if you have more backlinks Google eases up on the penalties or in some cases even considers your site to be the original source of the content even when it is not.

Without the hundreds or thousands of paid or manipulated backlinks you fall into the zone where you get the scrutiny but the scraped tubes do not.

Sorry, but I don't buy that at all.

It makes no sense whatsoever for google to ignore the will of surfers because someone
has a lot of back links. All the back links could be from "Report a scammer sites".

You view google only as an algorithm, but no company is going to be just that.
They are going to use common sense also. It's just plain common sense that the
link that is clicked the most with the lowest bounce rate is going to be moved to the top of search results, because that is clearly the link the surfers like.

i am seeing slightly increased traffic on older domains and sites, on the new ones are about the same but still have to wait some time so i could determent what's going on
