how many icons do you have on your desktop (if any)
 

i mostly put the programs i have in the taskbar, i currently only have 1 folder and recycle bin on my desktop, curious what you guys have.

14 icons right now. Which isn't bad for me actually...

One folder that contains a variety of sub folders.

I've got three. One of them is a folder. I just dump everything that's on my desktop into it at the end of everyday.

The other two are OSX HDD icons.

mine is near a screen full. I use my desktop just like any other directory and I empty it out every so often. Its mostly for current work scraps and such.

just counted... 247 icons on my desktop... I guess I should take the time nbow to clean up


Sometimes i go for the minimalistic look, but fuck allt hat.

Zero, I use the taskbar and start menu. I also use an almost black bg.

4 at the moment. I try to keep it down to what i`m working on. so a little project based i guess. Most daily things are in the taskbar

I go four rows in the taskbar. Dont really want to start a fifth row or I would go more.

Cant really have too many shortcuts. Loads fine.

I have about 10. The Mac HD icon, and the flickr upload icon for drag and drop. The other 8 are things I'm currently working on.

I don't like to have a cluttered desktop or a lot of icons on it. There's usually only 4 or so icons on it at any given time.

Thanks for the reminder.. just did a screencap. Gotta do that case ya ever have to rebuild the positioning. Gotta back up the Users/../Desktop and Users/../Microsoft/IE/Quick Launch regularily too.

I have three program launchers on my task bar. Everything else that I use regularly is command line, so it's in my head.

im not saying I havent done it but it has come to me a few times... the questions of a minimalistic desktop?

Why?

I dont know about any of you but I never just stare at my desktop ... shit its only visible when i restart shut down or grab something handy from it while working. to me... thats what its for now. Its to place goods that you currently work on or just havent gotten rid of. mostly as a scrap table.

What other rightful purpose does it serve... I know everyone doesnt work like me and do different things.. so im asking..

I just like the functionality of it, Deej. My major was Interactive Multimedia and when I was in college and in the labs, we were told not to have alot of "clutter" on the desktop. I guess the discipline just stuck, college for me was 9999-2001. ...And it's just nice, at least for me, when I know exactly where everything is. Music folder, models I am editing, video, apps, etc.

It's about being organized.

Your desktop is meant for things you need access to regularly or at the moment and then put away where they belong when they aren't being used. Just like a real desk top.

I normally don't keep anything on it, but started to put many of my steam games on it so I'd remember I have them pretty much, since I haven't played a great many of them.

I hide them all, so who knows until I get the time to clean them up. I usually use my usb hd's to store things.

I'm really obsessive about this, I have the recycle bin and that's it, only adding misc files for stuff I'm currently working on but try to clear it by the end of the day

right click on desktop, view, unclick 'show desktop icons' and use explorer

Well, for me it's not so much of choosing a minimal desktop as it is never using icons from there. I mean, I generally have a lot of windows open, and it's much more efficient to open programs from the menu than it is to minimize to the desktop all of the time.

For example, here's mine... and if I cared enough to edit the settings, I'd remove mounted drives from there as well but considering I never actually use the desktop for anything, there's no need.
