To buy regular produce or to go organic?

Health and environment watchdog, Environmental Working Group (EWG), has released the eighth edition of its Shopper?s Guide to Pesticides in Produce with updated data on 45 commonly-consumed fruits and vegetables and their total pesticide loads. The results are based on analysis of pesticide residue testing data from the US Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration.

Dirty Dozen:
The 12 to buy organic (in order of pesticide load, apples being the worst offenders).

1. Apples
2. Celery
3. Sweet bell peppers
4. Peaches
5. Strawberries
6. Imported nectarines
7. Grapes
8. Spinach
9. Lettuce
10. Cucumbers
11. Domestic blueberries
12. Potatoes

Clean Fifteen:
Buying organic is more sound environmentally, but if you can't, these options are less contaminated and don't pose as much of a health threat as do the dozen above.

1. Onions
2. Sweet corn
3. Pineapples
4. Avocado
5. Cabbage
6. Sweet peas
7. Asparagus
8. Mangoes
9. Eggplant
10. Kiwi
11. Domestic cantaloupe
12. Sweet potatoes
13. Grapefruit
14. Watermelon
15. Mushrooms

Other disheartening data from the report includes:

- Some 98 percent of conventional apples have detectable levels of pesticides.

- Domestic blueberries tested positive for 42 different pesticide residues.

- Seventy-eight different pesticides were found on lettuce samples.

- Every single nectarine USDA tested had measurable pesticide residues.

- As a category, grapes have more types of pesticides than any other fruit, with 64 different chemicals.

- Thirteen different pesticides were measured on a single sample each of celery and strawberries.

It's intentional and genocidal.

i pick up your organic fruit platter and throw it at you,

saving a large potato for the head shot

I fill my life with worry over the health threat of the fruits and vegetables I eat.

Sometimes it keeps me up at night, and my doctor has prescribed me 3 different anxiety medications for it.

And nobody can figure out why we've went from 1 in 12 getting cancer to 1 in 3, not to mention the epidemic with just about every other disease.

No, corporations don't need oversight. :1orglaugh

:2 cents:

Between all the shit in our food, the poisons in plastic, crap in the air and water, and lord knows what else we're exposed to, it is no wonder everyone is dying of cancer all over the world in record numbers.

Does this apply to frozen vegetables? That what I use in my green drinks.

Organic Fruits and Veggies are Such a Rip off Scam!!. Don;t Fall for it.

howard 06-21-2012 07:22 AM

I worked in the Fruit and Produce business, wholesale and retail, for 7-8 years. I was a buyer for a high end retail chain.

I haven't washed a piece of fruit or produce I have eaten in 50 years. None of the people in the industry do. We would be at the distributions cents and everyone has to taste everything before we buy. NO 1 ever got sick.

All this organic shit is just made up so they can hoax the public.

Tom_PM 06-21-2012 07:26 AM

Grow your own and save and win.

Tom_PM 06-21-2012 07:29 AM

There are unscrupulous scammer salespeople in any business. But the process of growing organically is vastly different than using chemicals and that's indisputable.

The Brooklyn Bridge is real. But some guy offering to sell it to you is a scam.

So grow it yourself if you don't trust your seller.

It's the long term consumption that makes you sick, think along the lines of cigarettes

There were some animal studies Monsanto did with their GMO foods, nasty results, Monsanto didn't publish them, fortunately an insider came out and explained how focked up the animals were after eating GMO

Longer life expectancy + higher detection rates + pharmaceutical companies with available treatments they need to sell

We have to whisper this, but Cancer-Causing SV40 was found in vaccines, that's according to former Merck Vaccine Chief Dr Maurice Hilleman

AllAboutCams 06-21-2012 09:06 AM

i never buy organic

scarlettcontent 06-21-2012 09:08 AM

grow if u can

MattPIVO 06-21-2012 10:45 AM

It makes sense to purchase some things organic like meats. I find that organic chicken and steak typically taste better. Other things like breads go bad in a matter of days. As far as fruits and vegetables, I don't notice much of a difference

Yes I suppose a pesticide soaked apple most likely doesnt taste much different, maybe they ought to start adding sugar to pesticides to appease the idiots.
