Google Chrome not so light anymore?

I have noticed that Google Chrome is starting to get a little heavier. I opened up Chrome and Firefox to the Google home page and Chrome is using almost 4 times the memory. I checked this on two of my computers and saw the same thing.

Is Chrome beefing up or am I understanding the memory monitor incorrectly?

You are right. I switched back to FF a while ago.

The same here.

Chrome is still faster for me, but I'm starting to feel the slowdown. Firefox still has a ton of extensions i use every day and the mem usage is usually in the 1-2 gig range. I get happy when its only a few hundred megs.

Opera still rocks :thumbsup

I use chrome also and have been thinking the exact same thing over the last month, seems its lost some of the pep it used to have.

Most of my firefox issues came down to having too many plugins installed, I find them both about the same now that I've gotten rid of the extras.

Opera is sluggish too, and not to mention a memory whore. I got sick of it and switched to firefox, but then realized very quickly how many pop-ups and how much shitty js exists on the internet so switched back to Opera.

Never had memory problems with Opera.

I never liked Chrome.

TheSenator 06-21-2012 08:29 AM

I switched from FireFox to Chrome last year.

Chrome does feel heavier but it rarely ever crashes and never eats up memory while open for days.

I also use Chrome developer tools now instead of Firebug.

All browsers are like that. They come out and they're super fast then they start to notice you actually need more than just page rendering. It's probably flash/shockwave. Google uses there own version of it which is slow

Yep, I hear this a lot I guess the spy software is getting bigger.

Google Chrome and Gmail - that's about the extent of my Google services - are all bloatware now. I guess Chrome is too busy keeping track of the websites I've visited to actually render a page in realtime.

The computer I use to check my email can barely load Gmail using Chrome, yet Opera destroys it. Opera pops Youtube and Gmail almost instantly.

Opera FTW. At least its not owned by Google. Yet.
