Dance of the Dead is surprisingly good. Don't forget Zombieland too. Night of the Comet is a fun 80s style zombie too.

Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland if you're in the mood to laugh.

Big zombie fan. dawn of the dead is a classic, ether walking dead tv series, zombieland, resident evil. All great!

"I Am Legend" is not a zombie movie. The creatures are humans which have been infected by a virus and become vampires.

"28 Days/Weeks Later" also aren't zombie movies. The creatures in it are humans which have been infected by the rage virus.

As for recommendations, I would go with "Shaun of the Dead" or "Dawn of the Dead 2004".

Dead Set was the best thing I've seen in a long time -- in the Zombie genre.

I love 28 Weeks Later also. Great musical score in that one.

The perfect list, as long as you mean the original Dawn of the Dead. I would also add Day of the Dead. And Return of the Living Dead 3...not that the movie was superior (though it did have the "pain numbs the hunger" stuff), but I think Melinda Clarke was hot as fuck in that movie. :)

I hate when people lump other entities into the zombie category. So, I agree with everything you said, except the 2004 Dawn of the Dead.

you can try rec and rec 2 and its english counterpart quarantine and quarantine 2 ;)
for post apocalyptic movies...
stake land
for crime and suspense...

- Resident Evil (#1 - the rest are shit)
- Silent Hill

Both have zombie-like creatures, great tense direction, amazing scares and stunning gore.

I like Resident Evil, zombies are fun till they are not real like that one in Miami

You should read the book I AM LEGEND. It's almost short enough to be a novella and it's point is the exact opposite of the movie. The movie is an abortion (actually it would be an abortion even if it wasn't based on a great book) compared to the book by Richard Matheson. Closest they ever came was THE OMEGA MAN, but even that missed the point of the book at the end.

Yeah, it's really good, but it still misses the point to the story in the book which is the reason for the title (of the book). Not that the OMEGA MAN was an actual adaptation, more like just closely based reference material.

I don't know what they were doing with that Will Smith crap. It started out okay, but the vampire things really were just fast moving zombies with fangs and there was no third or hybrid species in the story at all

No one has done that book correctly yet and probably never will cause they hate those endings in Hollywood. They even changed the ending to ANIMAL FARM on one adaptation I saw LOL

Yeah...I grew up on the 70s and 80s zombie flicks. They drove my mom nuts, but Dad is a big fan and didn't hide the fact that he loved that his son loved them too.

I'm actually DP'ing a short film this summer that a friend wrote. All I care about is getting a few cool shots of zombie action for my reel.
