Recommend a digital cam

I have know clue about cameras or photography and need to get one soon. $150 is probably more than I want to spend....

edit.

If I upgrade to a better phone with high MP, will that do the same thing as a cam that costs $150?

youre probbaly going to need to check the oil pressure and sign some forms

A 150 point and shoot would still blow a smart phone away in picture quality. Even at the same MP, the lens and everything makes a big difference. That being said, if photography isn't a big part of your life a smartphone with a good camera might be good enough for you.

you can get a decent little Canon Powershot for $150 or less from newegg.com or Amazon.

Anything Nikon. :)

Canon Powershots are fantastic. I carry an s95 with me everywhere I go and the quality is really on point. I have even shot some stock with it that sells online. It is more expensive than your budget but there are other Powershots out there as mentioned above that would be worth checking out. Go to Newegg or Amazon and check out the reviews.

I just picked up a Canon SX-150is about a month ago .... I am pretty comfortable with DSLRs, so I can be quite demanding on a point and shoot camera, but I must admit that I am VERY impressed with this kit, and yes I would definitely recommend it.

The stills are breath-taking, and the HD video is very crisp. The zoom works inside of video mode too, which is very nice!!
