Gimme-Website is selling CyberSEO Suite through her site at a 50% discount?

Is this true? Can someone confirm this?

If so can someone send me the link?

BIGTYMER 06-08-2012 12:10 PM

She called out fris why are you taking it so personal?

What do you mean? I'm trying to buy CyberSEO for a discount.

Brujah 06-08-2012 12:13 PM

She wouldn't have to charge. She could give it away for free, according to candyflip and a few others.

I would not suggest you to buy my script somewhere else except the official site, because if I discover that some license has a few owner, it will be revoked and you will just lose your money.

CyberSEO is NOT a GPL product, because it does not use any GPL code itself.

CyberSEO won't function without WordPress, so it becomes a derivative work based on WP, which makes it GPL based on WP's license.

Nope it will be. It has its own API. It may work with WordPress and may without. The same as any application written for Linux is not have to be a GPL product just because it uses Linux API.

BIGTYMER 06-08-2012 12:24 PM

I think we need Giddeon's input on this matter.

So you're saying that it will work without WordPress out of the box?

What are you talking about? I'm trying to get a discounted Wordpress plugin from Gimme-Website. You know, the girl that spams other designer threads? I'm trying to confirm if she is selling CyberSEO at a discount. I heard somewhere that she was. Just trying to confirm and save some money.

Buy, install and use one of his scripts. It really isn't too hard to see. Hell you might even be able to figure it out if you just check out his site and read the server install requirements...for starters :winkwink:

If it works without wordpress, it's not a derivative work. That seems kind of self explanatory.

Btw, I have purchased his product.

Right, but he's not selling it as a non-wp software. If you go read his site it's a "Professional Autoblogging and Spinning Plugin for WordPress". The word "WordPress" appears 16x in his homepage markup, which incidentally is a violation of their trademark. They clearly indicate that it's ok to use the term "WP", but not "WordPress" on their press page.

http://wordpressfoundation.org/trademark-policy/

Here's the quote from the page:
"We will grant permission to use the WordPress name and logo for projects that meet the following criteria:

The primary purpose of your project is to promote the spread and improvement of the WordPress software.
!!!Your project is non-commercial in nature (it can make money to cover its costs or contribute to non-profit entities, but it cannot be run as a for-profit project or business).
Your project neither promotes nor is associated with entities that currently fail to comply with the GPL license under which WordPress is distributed."

I can revoke the license, according to the TOS, and I will DO it as soon as I find out which exactly license is being resold.

Actually there are a few ways to do so. I can parse the installation logs manually (this may take up to a few days). Or I can get the information from someone else.

When the license will be revoked (just a two clicks on my end), the plugin will stop working and everybody who bought it from a thief will lose the money paid for it.

So the first person who will report me the serial code of the CyberSEO plugin bought anywhere else than at http://www.cyberseo.net/, will receive a 100% free license on CyberSEO Suite.

Here is my contact info:

It doesn't matter how I sell it. Believe me. The product is WP-independent and it has nothing to do with GPL and open source.

You can revoke a license but that doesn't mean you aren't in violation of the GPL. You can disagree all you want but there are numerous articles about this from both WordPress team as well as GPL legal teams.

Can you post a demo of the software in action that is not using Wordpress? That will make me want to purchase it even more!

Encoding a product doesn't change GPL requirements.

Sure I can post a PHP code which will use the CyberSEO API, say to parse some feed, synonymize it and display (or something else). The only thing you'll need to run the code is a copy of CyberSEO. Do you have it?

P.S. Actually if you take a look here: http://www.cyberseo.net/category/cyberseo/examples/, you'll find a few examples that use the CyberSEO API.

This has nothing to do with your product, it's a discussion about the GPL. :2 cents:

Encoding php just makes the php code encoded. That's it. It doesn't eliminate GPL requirements. If you develop a plugin for WordPress, then the php code is also required to be distributed under GPL. Period.

P.S. Course your name will be kept confidential.

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but I doubt anyone is leaking copies of CyberSEO, and like I said before my interest was a discussion about the GPL. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

That doesn't have much sense considering there is like billions of commercial plugins for wordpress and other gpl scripts yet i dont see anyone releasing code.

Exactly. Here is the apropriate quote:

Quote:

WordPress has many external APIs that spit out data. Interacting with these APIs does not put your code on the same level as core WordPress code. These APIs include Atom, RSS, AtomPub, and XML-RPC. Something that interacts with these APIs sits entirely outside of WordPress. Google Reader doesn’t become part of WordPress by accessing your feed, and MarsEdit doesn’t become part of WordPress when you use it to publish a post on your WordPress blog. These are separate applications, running separately, on separate codebases. All they are doing is communicating. Applications that interact with WordPress this way are separate works, and the author can license them in any way they have authority to do so.
The CyberSEO is a self-sufficient product which can run without WP like a sand-alone code, but it can be used with WordPress via its API (like MarsEdi). That how it works

Once again the CyberSEO is not a GPL product. I've spoke about it to Mika from WordPress.org just about a week ago. I've told him how exactly my plugin works and he said that's ok, and the only restriction is that won't be able to distribute my plugin via WordPress.org repository because it's not a GPL product. Actually it was the reason why they have removed my other SimpleFLV plugin from the repository. The problem was in JWPlayer which is included into the package but its NOT a GPL product.

I don't see any reason to continue the GPL "educational" discussion with GFY'ers, just because I have direct contacts with the WP developers. :2 cents:

Since when? Mine was installed in wp-content/plugins, and hooked directly into WP. It was not external to WP. Is there a standalone version that doesn't require activation through the WP Dashboard?

I did read the other thread so the "case is closed". However, there is a couple important things I want to repeat:
  • Do not by the CyberSEO plugin from anywhere except the official site. Otherwise you will lose the money.
  • If you find someone selling or giving away my script, report him/her and get a legal unlimited license for free!
P.S. Thanks to the OP for this promo of my script. I can't sell it to you for a half of a price, but you definitely deserved a 20% off discount - just drop me an email :pimp
